Anti-Abortion Terrorism...

The Bush administration has been very proud of the fact that there have been no terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11 - unless you count those inconvenient anthrax attacks of course. But I suppose it really all depends on what your definition of "terrorism" is.

Last week, David Robert McMenemy of Sterling Heights, Michigan, was charged with second-degree arson after crashing his car into an Iowa women's health clinic and then setting it on fire. According to Davenport police Detective Mike Bowers, "He drove into the clinic and set his car on fire using an accelerant. He knew what he was doing. He planned it. It wasn't an accident. ... He has admitted looking them (abortion clinics) up in phone books and online. I have no idea why Iowa."

But of course crashing your car into a women's clinic, dousing it with gasoline, and setting it on fire doesn't count as an act of terrorism - why, it's just the act of a concerned citizen determined to make a political statement against abortion. Or something.

Here's the really dumb part: according to the Quad City Times, "The facility was founded in 1972 to provide prenatal care and medical services to low-income and underprivileged women. It does not perform abortions, nor does it make abortion referrals, Center President Tom Fedje said."

Er, whoops.

(Now, just to head off anybody who wants to mis-interpret, I am not saying that people like the following represent anything typical of the "pro-life" movement. These nuts are very few and very far between. I believe most in the pro-life movement are reviled by such tactics...)

Why is it a stretch?

And again, I am not trying to generalize this onto anything else...

This guy's actions are representative of just him...

You just can't comprehend somebody posting the actions of one person without trying to pretend it's indicative of everybody like him, can you...

Again what was your point in posting this???? To prove that there have been acts of terrorism in this country since 9/11???? By the way, how many innocent people were killed in this act??? Or was the building only damaged??? Why not post some of the damage that has been caused by the envirowhackos??? The burning of car dealerships, or houses???

You used an anti-abortion zealot, one who most of us on the right at least those of us who are sane anyway, would say is wrong, and that he does not represent us. But at least we can say that, for the left the ends always justify the means, again just look at the enviromental issue.

Actually, I posted it because I got a laugh at the idiot. I figured others would too.

I didn't expect a Spanish inquisition into why I posted it...

1) I "used" him???

Give me a freakin' break Sarge. All I did was repeat an article about his actions.

HOW did I supposedly "use" this CRIMINAL?

2) I explicitly stated: "These nuts are very few and very far between. I believe most in the pro-life movement are reviled by such tactics."

It's fairly obvious that I agree with you regarding your assessment of "the right".

Geez. I had no idea this article would touch such a nerve.

I'm rather amazed at the reaction.

I figured my disclaimer would be more than enough to head off any confusion.

I guess it did nothing for the confusion, or the inflammatory reaction.

I took it as flame bait, what kind of reaction were you looking for?

I posted a disclaimer at the end, explicitly saying that this news item was not an example of the general anti-abortion crowd. That most abhor such violence. I thought that would be enough to head off any "flame bait" thoughts, because stripped of that I don't see what there is to "flame" with on this.

It's just one idiot, acting like an idiot. If it had been some left-wing cause with similar idiocy, I would have laughed at it too.

I found it funny. That's pretty much it.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter..... Religion is often spread at the point of a sword.... So sad.
