Just dont tell the Denmark PM. He said Denmark is not Socialist. Apparently Daily KOS failed to send him his talking points. Or, maybe he just didn't care what Daily KOS said

None worthy of mention. Socialists need deep-pockets. Hence, oil-money. No oil money and the entitlement crowd turns against you. What happens in the US when the entitlement crowd exceeds the money business taxes can generate? Will this government simply print more and until it's as worthless as Venezuelan money?

Like all resentful socialists with a purge mentality, Chavez thought he'd show the world how to create Utopia via socialism. His most famous quote: "Socialism is love!" As soon as he was elected, the company in Caracas my wife was working for, Norway-based Norsk Hydro, laid everybody off, gathered their assets and left Venezuela. Most efficient, profitable foreign based companies did the same. Those that remained were squeezed until they too left, or were expropriated outright. Companies that were expropriated got new managers from Chavez' legions of loyalists, who promptly ran them all into bankruptcy. It seems running a successful company takes more than luck and bourgoisie blue blood. Chavez gave away money and assets his government stole or nationalized. While everyone was growing fat and happy eating the country's economic seed corn, the golden goose (the oil industry) was faltering under the weight of incompetence, failure to properly maintain the infrastructure, and a severe lack of educated chemical, mechanical and structural engineers. It seems camposinos are not suitable replacements for educated professionals made suddenly unemployed in the name of social justice.

On top of all this was the natural tendency for corruption in the absence of a meritocracy, and graft, corruption and outright plunder of the national treasury was rampant. Now the cupboards are bare, and Chavez' hand-picked replacement, former bus driver Nicolas Maduro, must blame the capitalist imperialists for all the country's problems.

But even after all that, I personally thank Chavez. Had he not done what he did, my wife would never have fled to the USA, met me, and become my beautiful wife. So, there's always a silver lining.
Thanks from webguy4 and coke
