The Democratic Party shift.

The Democrat Party started with the first Democrat President Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson, or as I like to call him "old Indian Killer" was himself an owner of many black slaves. The Democrat party continued that angle through the Civil War with Jim Crowe laws in the South.

But at some point the Democrat party shifted from the keep the black man down policy. Many say it did not end but rather shifted to a welfare state which continued to keep the black man down. I think that is a simplistic way to look at it. I think in reality the Democrat party shifted from the party of segregation to the party of Socialism. You can sure see it today everywhere. A huge part of the party respects the teachings of Karl Marx and Lenin. So much so that we had a major candidate for President this go round who is a professed Socialist.

So my question is this: How did this transition take place? It happened pretty quickly. Was it FDR? Or was there someone else before FDR driving this?

We don't have a democratic party any more, just in name only. Between WWII and the 1968 democratic convention it was stolen by socialist and worse.
Us democrats are in limbo.
Some of the socialist identified themselves by voting for Sanders this time around. So the ones that voted for Hillary were not democrats or socialist.........Liberals and radicals?

I know that is the stock answer. I think it is a result but not the prime objective.

The democrat party had been rapidly losing power from the start of the civil war thrugh thw 1920s. FDR was argueably the most socialist president we have ever had. He had a communist high level cabinet member, whom he covered for.

The aclu come into being somewhere about 1900 and was created by a socialist or communist, I can't remember which, and they have been chipping away at the constitution ever since.

Yes started with WW1 as the National Civil Liberties Bureau. Changed name and changed to litigation. All of this was about defending Communist conscientious objectors to the war. Through the twenties the majority of those defended by the ACLU were members of the Communist Party.

I have been reading about it. It is all very interesting.

Both founders Baldwin and Eastman were Communists.

Jimmy Carter awarded the Medal of Freedom. So the Democrat honors the Communist.
