New independent bid for president in 2020?

Here is an interesting concept. A Democrat and a Republican getting together on a variety of policies and are considering mounting a run at the presidency as an independent.

Some excerpts from the article:

Quote:
Kasich, who's being advised by veteran consultant John Weaver, is keeping open all his options, including the possibility of primarying Trump in 2020.
Quote:
Why it matters: National Dems so far haven't capitalized on Trump's record unpopularity and obsession with his base. But this is a creative coupling that'll get a ton of airtime, and maybe even traction.
Quote:
The pushback: Some establishment Dems are apoplectic about the idea of Hickenlooper teaming up with a Republican. One top strategist told me: "No Dem wants Kasich anywhere near our ticket. Sounds like a No Labels fantasy, but moderate Dems would hate it."

But a veteran operative emails: "Our political system is completely broken. Something big and historic needs to happen to break the logjam. I'm a big Dem but I'm for anything that ... does away with this hyper-partisanship on both sides that is paralyzing our government."

I would like to hear some more opinions on Kasich. Higgenlooper (what a handle) is very popular in Colorado. IT, what do you think of Higgenlooper...?

Kasich's policy positions made him my favorite at the GOP convention. I don't know enough about his performance as a Governor to comment.

Hickenlooper Clara.

I first heard about this driving to the total eclipse.

This is a good idea imo.

It's an independent campaign, that doesn't work.
The insurgent has to co-opt a party nomination, which can be done, hello Trump.

And there is a Democrat who could pull that off, Seth Moulton.

Independent's don't have a snowball chance in Hell to be elected to high political office, just ask Perot. An independent sits on the fence looking for which way the wind blows. In our lifetime there are only two ways to go, left or right.

There's a third way: left AND right, depending on which philosophy makes the most sense in a particular situation.

The way things are now, allegiance to party philosophy, putting party before the people or our country, ensures that both parties are right some of the time and wrong some of the time. That's why the debate goes on and on.

Each side's members spend way too much time defending their party when the party in that situation is wrong.

Trump sold himself as the third way, the so-called anti-establishment position, but as we knew then and see perfectly now, he's a liar, a good enough salesman to convince his supporters that he's anti-establishment, but a liar.

Kasich will run as a Republican and have a decent chance. Even Bernie Sanders knew better than to run as an Independent. Kasich will not forsake his own party in fear of the far Right IMO. Chump was a one off.

The rise of the independents is LONG overdue.

In many ways, independents aren't a third party. They stand for a second option in many cases.

While Ds and Rs differ in many ways, all to often they stand shoulder-to-shoulder, like on Afghanistan. Like on never addressing the burgeoning national debt. Like, they both will jump with claws out on third-party candidates.
