Puerto Rico

Over three million Americans without electricity or water.
And less response than was supplied to Houston or Florida.

The Jones Act was suspended immediately for Houston and Florida, it took a week for it to happen for Puerto Rico, because "shipping interests" told Trump it wasn't a good idea.

The economic devastation of the island is enormous, the electric grid needs to be rebuilt, surely the commonwealth will default on it's debt.
What should we do when a part of America is destroyed by a natural disaster?

The amount of aid that will be required over the coming years is enormous, will we supply it?

If we don't, there will be hundreds of thousands if not millions who come to the mainland, and they will be entitled to get welfare, they are Americans.

Last weekend, dotard Don tweeted 22 times about the NFL and 0 tweets about Puerto Rico. The jerk is totally unfit for office. This weekend he plays golf again as Americans suffer.

No worries. Now that DJT has straightened out the NFL, got things back on track in the world of professional football, he can redouble his Puerto Rico efforts, to wit:
Trump slams Puerto Rico mayor for 'poor leadership', says 'they' want everything 'done for them'

Such a presidential snarl. Please watch the video at the link.

Well, he's certainly not going to go to an island that doesn't have a decent resort!

Here is the difference, after Harvey hit Houston, people drove there with supplies from neighboring communities that were not affected, aid came from all over the country.

Puerto Rico is an island the only aid possible is that that is flown in or comes by ship.

They will need an effort that dwarfs what was done in Houston or Florida.
I don't see that effort being mounted yet, not at the scale which will be required.

The Jones Act being suspended will do nothing but kick the American worker in the teeth again.

Indeed. But this weekend, the power is on at the Bedminster golf club, aka the Trump National Golf Club.
Trump’s apathy about Puerto Rico is reflected in where he’s spending his weekend

As Hurricanes Harvey and Irma approached Texas and Florida, President Trump spent his weekends either at Camp David or at the White House, participating in the coordination of preparations and helping guide the government’s response. Those were massive storms, drowning one of the largest cities in the country and threatening South Florida. But neither appears to have led to the sort of catastrophe or death toll that the nation saw after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Trump enjoyed the rewards of that limited impact, with a small uptick in his poll numbers and polling showing that most Americans think he handled the crisis well. So, for the first time in a month, he decided to spend last weekend at one of his private clubs, the one in Bedminster, N.J.

This was three days after Hurricane Maria obliterated Puerto Rico, and the effects of the storm were already obvious. But not, apparently, to Trump.

...The administration appears to have been caught unprepared for Maria. There was ample warning that a major hurricane was bearing down on Puerto Rico, with a projected path that took it directly across the island’s most populated areas.

...But the White House didn’t send additional resources in advance and was slow to get geared up afterward....

...On Saturday morning, Trump woke up and immediately took to Twitter to send a message to the mayor of San Juan. The message was not one meant to convey how the administration would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to aid the afflicted island, though. Instead, it was to take issue with the frustration the mayor had expressed to the media about the slow response.

...Trump tweet, in other words, was turning the disaster into another social-media feud. He sent it shortly after he woke up at his private golf club in Bedminster.
