How great a businessman is Trump?

By his own account, in 1976, when Trump was starting his career, he was worth about $200 million, much of it from his father.

Today he says hes worth some $8 billion.

If hed just put the original $200 million into an index fund and reinvested the dividends, hed be worth $12 billion today.

His brilliant business savvy has lost him 4 billion dollars net.

But then he wouldn't have had the fun of screwing countless investors, suppliers and contractors through his bankruptcies and in other ways. Not to mention students.

A guy's gotta have a little fun along the way.

When he started his career he was worth zero. He borrowed the money and paid it back. under your theory I could take out a loan, invest that money in the stock market and end up a millionaire.

Let them have their fun.....They are still trying to convince themselves that Trump is the biggest fuck-up ever and they are part of the effort to get rid of him....Gives them a sense of power.....

Okay trump didn't create businesses and others like him what would the index be.

Look at buildings and homes in NY, they would not have been built. Unless someone else built them.

Yes Trump built things but he created businesses that help drive those indexes.

Farmers are not the top of the chain that profits off of agriculture but they drive the agriculture business.

Where did he say he started out with $200 million? Fred Trump did not even have $200 million in net worth in 1976, let alone able to fund Donald with that much cash.

Are you sure? According to many TDS sufferers, he is barely worth a couple of billions, if that. Ivestopedia list him at $3.9 billion, and Trump himself claims over $10 billion.

This theory has been debunked so many times over and over, but yet some ding-dong will write yet another article claiming as such.

Let's say Donald did have a net worth of $200 million and threw every last dollar into this index fund and never took a nickel profit but reinvested everything. How do you propose he managed to keep his homes and live the extravagant lifestyle?

Did you now that mathematically, anyone working a minimum wage full-time job and had invested all his wages from 18-65 into into the same index funds would be a three digit multi-millionaire at 65 today?. But that can never ever happen because we simply have to pay as we go while living our lives to hit retirement. You have to be realistic and consider how much it cost just to live. How much money do you think Trump burned through during his life?

What the heck are you talking about? You realy think if I borrowed 200 million and then made payments on it while getting a similar return on an indexed fund would net me... nothing.
