What happened to the Republican party?

Republicans still love them some evangelicals and hate them some gays and transgenders. And they love them some buying votes with tax cuts.

But are there any vestiges of any fiscal conservatism in the party anymore?

Deficit control: Nope.

Free trade: Nope.

Non-intrusive government: (See Muslims, Hispanics, gays etc) Nope.

Look up the word “conservative” in the dictionary. It does not even closely apply to these right wing extremists. I never use the “C”-word when addressing them. I only hold contempt in my heart for them.

We'll find out soon enough what's happened to the GOP. November 6, 2018.

The voters will let us know what they think of the Trump administration and his congress.

That's why I, after more than 30 years voting Republican, no longer do so. They were fiscal conservatives but social progressives. They like to remind us that it was Lincoln and the republicans that freed the slaves. And that Republicans were largely responsible for most of the this country's major social initiatives over the last 150 years.

NO LONGER !!! Today's Republicans would never vote to free the the slaves, give blacks or women the vote or pass the civil rights act. In fact there are more than a few that have proposed undoing some of those things. They have certainly given up all pretense of fiscal restraint. It seems the only time
they worry about debt and government spending is when there's a Democrat in the white house to blame it on.

I stopped voting Republican in 1988 for those very reasons.

The republican party is dying. This is good.

As the youth moves to a new breed of "conservatism" that resembles libertarianism much more than what is thought of as Republican the democrats continue to regress. They today resemble the religious right of the 80s and 90s and the youth see them for what they are. Authoritarian bullies trying to use the state to jam their fringe ideal into the heads and houses of the people. By any means necessary. Good luck w/ that guys. Tick tock.

Free trade, y'all, not dumping. As President Reagan dealt with the issue in the 1980's.

"Muslims, Hispanics, gays, etc."? What intrusion? You mean allowing unvetted Moslems in (and see the New York Times even recognizing the crime situation in Sweden)? Hispanics? You mean allowing illegals a free ride? Gays? You mean marriage is one man one woman, and is a state matter not a federal one?

What is this "right wing extremist" y'all speak of? You mean tens of millions who are on the whole conservatives?

I'm waiting for the moderates in the middle to get together and start a viable new third party. There are lots of liberal republicans and conservative democrats who are for the most part no longer represented by either party. Both parties are increasingly entrenched at their extremes and the ONLY people with a voice are corporations and those with deeps pockets. Who are often one and the same.

The majority of Americans are "in the middle" this is why it is so important that the polititions and legacy media push this identity politics crap. Keep the huttled masses fighting amungst one and other. Encourage tribalism. Shit politics has replaced sports for the most part ti fill that "us vs them" my team is better 5han your team" void.

I spend a lot of time w/ gen z in a very, very liberal city. I have worked/ both the debate and speech teams. They for the most part do not care about all that shit. The hyper sensitive millennials and younger gen x liberals are their teachers. They are sick to death of this and that. They have had the internet in their pockets all their lives. You cant lie to them or pretend you know something. They just look it up. They understand sourcing and what is just opinion bs. They have had everything from YouTube to youporn on their phones. They could give a shit less if sally is a transgendered-bi racial- lesbian but do not see why she should be able to cut in line and get the last chocolate milk because of it. It is refreshing.

I am not kidding when i compare todays leftists to the religious right of the 80s and 90s.

Liber-vangicals

They are just pushing some different crazy dogma.
