I read it. It is a bill, that was never introduced, that would not have given the President total power. For starters, the President can already set tariffs and rates. Secondly, you Democrat/Socialist are misrepresenting what it says. It would give the President the power to pull out of the WTO, not emperor status in the USA. Did I read it indeed. I did, I just did not make it into something that it never was in order to feed my loathing butt hurt feelings over losing an election.

The details: The bill, titled the "United States Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act," would give Trump unilateral power to ignore the two most basic principles of the WTO and negotiate one-on-one with any country:

The "Most Favored Nation" (MFN) principle that countries can't set different tariff rates for different countries outside of free trade agreements;
"Bound tariff rates" — the tariff ceilings that each WTO country has already agreed to in previous negotiations.
Im actually not so sure that is a bad thing for the USA to not have to ask mother may I of the WTO.

It has nothing to do with losing an election. Good god, it's like talking to a goddamn rock.

Your post is totally unrelated to anything that has been posted in this thread.

Like most RWs, you decided what libs are thinking and responded to that without any comprehension of what was actually said.

But keep floundering, it's actually pretty amusing.

Read slowly. One of the looney lefties posted that a "bill" which is not a bill must be passed by congress. Altho I bet that statement could be read two ways and you think you've tripped the trap. Now you an the rest of the resident looneys are caught in your echo chamber aren't you. Thats what is truly amusing here.

I'm still waiting for the "Bill" that congress has to approve to appear.

The looney left, as you call it know what a fucking joke this is and are using it to heap scorn on your pathetic excuse for a president.

So far it's only the delusional psycho righties that are pretending we think it would actually be presented to Congress. Anything to deflect from Don Don's constant screw-ups.

Well, at least this rock realizes that the President has the authority to impose tariffs. Yes, all your crying and bitching is nothing but being mad over an election. Nothing in this thread in regards to Trump taking total control was true or had merit. Not one damn thing. The President already has the authority in regards to tariffs. Congress gave it to, well starting with FDR to be exact. All the bill said was to no longer have to ask WTO permission to deal with nations individually. TDS at its finest. Good thing I am here to set the record straight

Quote:
There are many ways the president can impose tariffs without congressional approval. To name a few:

Through the Trading With the Enemy Act of 1917, the president can impose a tariff during a time of war. But the country doesn’t need to be at war with a specific country — just generally somewhere where the tariffs would apply. (This is how Richard Nixon imposed a 10 percent tariff in 1971, citing the Korean War.)
The Trade Act of 1974 allows the president to implement a 15 percent tariff for 150 days if there is “an adverse impact on national security from imports.” After 150 days, the trade policy would need congressional approval.
There’s the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977, which would allow the president to implement tariffs during a national emergency.

Trump’s White House cited Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, a provision that gives the secretary of commerce the authority to investigate and determine the impacts of any import on the national security of the United States — and the president the power to adjust tariffs accordingly.
