We don't have to go back very far to find moderate or even left-leaning GOP presidents that were once HAILED as great presidents. Forty or 50 years ago, the very thought of Dwight Eisenhower or Richard Nixon being too liberal for the Republican Party would have been hard to fathom. But what was considered conservative in the GOP of the 1950s, '60s or '70s would be considered centrist or moderate today. The power that extreme wingnuts exert on the modern GOP has been obvious during recent events in Congress.

The GOP destroyed moderates. It's a brand new day--a day when presidents like Gerald Ford, Geo HW Bush, Teddy Roosevelt would be tarred and feathered. Presidential candidates have changed their tune as well.

Maybe the moderates of both parties should form a new party.
As your party moves toward Democratic Socialism and you accuse the right of being to far right. That is funny. Thanks for the laugh

You must know by now that I LIVE to make you happy....now let's talk.

The only presidential candidate that espoused Democratic Socialism was Bernie Sanders. Jog my memory. Did Bernie Sanders WIN the nomination?

What has the Democratic Party done recently to justify your statement?

The thread is about a Republican president, Ronnie Reagan, who was a moderate Republican.

AND lastly--for the umpteenth time the word is: TOO. The phrase should read "you accuse the right of being TOO far right."

Quote:
To is a preposition which begins a prepositional phrase or an infinitive. Too is an adverb meaning "excessively" or "also." Two is a number. Many other words in English which reflect the number two are spelled with tw: twin, twice, between, tweezers, etc.
You are welcome.

The Democrat party going hard left has everything to do with the accusation of the right going even farther right. The GOP going hard right simply is not the case. The libertarian movement within the GOP is the largest it has ever been. Claims of evangelical GOP and hard right not only are false, but the evangelical within the GOP has dwindled. Its working people who are now the back bone of the GOP. Your team gave up on them. When your political party has swung all the way to Socialist everything appears hard right.

I remember Saint Ronnie running on a platform of "fiscal responsibility".

He tripled our national debt before he left office!! And the GOP thinks he did a fantastic job
Thanks from RNG

Yes, seriously. I mean we can go with facts and percentage then if you would like.

Quote:
42% of Democrats are in favor of socialism

Quote:
While socialism prevailed over capitalism among voters in every demographic, its smallest margins came from two of the groups with which Clinton has been strongest: voters over 66 years of age (36 percent preferred socialism, 28 percent sided with capitalism) and African-Americans (40 percent to 27 percent).

Bernie Sanders is an avowed socialist. 52 percent of Democrats are OK with that.

Links to the polling data are included in the "op-eds".

You are very welcome

He made deals with Tip O'neal, who was the Speaker of the House, where as you know, spending originates. One of the reasons I am not going to be upset if some of the GOP gets thrown out of the house. They want to act like Democrats, then they can get beat by them. They made their bed, they can lay in it.

Yeah, I know where the spending originates. THE WHITE HOUSE. The Executive Branch is the branch responsible for INTRODUCING THE BUDGETS, which are subject to pass/fail in the House. So the House ultimately controls the purse strings, but the PRESIDENT controls and submits the budget.

Must suck arguing with a guy that knows this stuff better, huh?
