Aren't we all born with the survival instinct?

...Saying it's "merely human nature" does not excuse it...Let's invest our time in something that brings us together rather than tears us apart...And as my dad said "treat others as you'd want to be treated even if it hurts", okay so maybe he didn't say it first...

Clara wants everyone to write complete sentences which I am guilty and everyone else except for Clara. I do the best I can with what little I got. My first sentence is complete but my second sentence is woefully incomplete.

THE ANSWER

The answer is, knowledge. Whether first-hand or second-hand, knowledge is the single most indispensable thing to all living humans. People have died not because there wasn’t water or food available, but because they didn’t know how to get it. People have also died because they didn’t know what they were doing was going to kill them. And finally, an infant human will die if left alone because it doesn’t yet know how to take care of itself—which is where second-hand knowledge (in the form of an adult human) comes into play. This proves that knowledge, for human beings, is the most important thing. The more you know, the closer you are to the truth, the closer you are to the truth, that safer you are in the big, bad jungle.

Next question: what are the main components that identify a civilization as a civilization?
I don't agree, I think instinct comes before knowledge, you can get knowledge from the experiences you gain from following your instincts. No matter how intelligent one is, common sense is what keeps you alive.

Aren't crawling, walking and running learned from instinct?

Common sense is the PC word for Horse sense. I use the Trial and Error method when doing something new and learn from my mistakes.

Given the basic necessities for comfortable survival in one's relative environment, what does everyone need. To be genuinely successful, I would expand on the idea of knowledge lying at the core of it (functioning brain being an obvious essential), and say that what is needed by every living human being is truth, vis-a-vis false knowledge is inferior, misleading, and sometimes deadly. Truth on the other hand is superior, offers proper direction, and can keep one alive.
