An intellectual is someone in firm control of all known facts, and accurately (to the best of their intellectual ability) tell us what they mean. The idea that we hardly know what we know is bogus in the sense that sapience is capable of understanding anything, it's just a matter of having the time to process the information. In other words, your saying should be: We aren't allowed the time to know all we could know.
Thanks from Polari

...Firm control of known facts?...Scientific fact, maybe...The facts are always interpreted different depending on which side of the argument your on (the winning or the losing side)...America has proved that with slavery and what we did to the natives...We've been talking about slavery for a long ass time and still haven't overcome our racism and bigotry...We are just starting to become aware of what we did to native Americans...Who do you know who's in firm control of "all" known facts?...There is always some asshole who just when you think your getting to a conclusion, adds another fucking thread to the conversation lol...

That's why my primary answer is a functioning brain. You can objectively measure it's importance to survival. "Knowledge" is a subjective answer, since it certainly wouldn't be ALL knowledge which is most important. Figuring out which knowledge is important in which situations is definitely subjective.

Sorry Bookworm, you're confused again.

You can objectively measure the importance of knowledge to survival--when someone's dead because they couldn't take of themselves or didn't know what they were doing would kill them.

How you identify "knowledge" as a subjective answer in this debate makes me wonder if you even know what subjective and objective mean, and the difference between them.

You final sentence really makes me wonder. I don't know if you've been drinking or are just plain confused and out of your depth, but you should take a moment and clarify what you're saying, with examples, otherwise we might be at an end with your air of intellectual seniority. It looks like you're not even a sophomore. Sophomores know the difference between the subjective and the objective and would be able to correctly apply them to examples germane to our current debate.

Facts can be interpreted to mean something, but not all interpretations are valid. Lots of people walk around basing their entire life on an invalid interpretation of the known facts.

You remember in college how you had to take a course in logic, and how you had to work statements through a truth table to determine if valid or not.

Racism is part of the human condition and might apparently be for quite some time to come.

You're comment was related to knowledge, and we were already talking that, so I didn't take any offense.

Classic irony: a thread about an intellectual dual started by a third-rate intellectual wannabe whose greatest asset so far is slinging insults. Bookworm is in another league than this posey.

You can say what you want, but please don't mischaracterize--I'm not slinging insults, I'm returning them. Bookworm started.

That said, I guess we're back to pinning your diapers on, i.e. coaxing you to make a claim and back it up.
Thanks from GhostRider

...I used to look forward to your posts...I've come to realize you just argue to win and your conclusions aren't your own, plucked from the database of your eidetic memory from authors long dead...Your elitist attitude has gotten old and lame and repetitive...Did you really start a post slinging an insult then call someone else out for slinging insults?...Shit, you even ended your post with an insult, lol...Hypocrisy becomes you...lol...More classic Irony...
Thanks from RNG and GhostRider
