Calling All Intellectuals: A Duel

Hi, how are you? I hope good. You may have noticed that I recently joined this forum and began a discussion about a constitutional issue: HRC 2022 & the Article V Convention.

Some of the site heavies weighed in and of course some were snide/dismissive, but that's to be expected on the Internet and life in general. Doesn't bother me. The point is, some humans are oriented to discovering the objective truth of things, and some pride themselves on it. Back during the time of Voltaire, humans would verbally duel about what was most important and/or most interesting regarding all late available facts, and proudly claim superiority. We do much the same thing on sites like this.

What is the fun of an intellectual duel? To show who has a greater grasp of the objective truth. How do you have an intellectual duel? It's simple: A question is asked, and anyone can try and answer it. Or, you ask a question, and anyone else can try and answer it.

No one today dares refer to themselves as an intellectual, but we all are, at our own level, an intellectual. Some are heavier than others, true, but we can still have fun and show off what we know. Don't be afraid to be wrong, or say duh, I'm not. If you have time and feel like it, to start off the duel, answer the following question:

What is the most important thing to every living human being?

I would say that varies quite a bit from human to human. I think it would be almost impossible to say, with any sort of authority, what is THE most important thing to EVERY human being. I would think that a better way to pose the question would be what is the most important thing to most or many human beings. In answer to that question i would say survival, simple physical survival. One of the strongest natural instincts we humans possess.

And BTW, I really do not consider myself an intellectual.
An interesting question, thanks.

Hi Hollywood, thanks for playing. The answer to the question is an objective truth, you touched on it a bit in your reply. Let's see if anyone else wants to play/take a shot at it. If not, I'll provide the answer later....
Thanks from Hollywood

More than survival, it is in fact the survival of the species. This is demonstrated by the fact that often a parent will risk their lives to protect the life of their offspring.

Agreed. BUT, that survival instinct must be hard-wired in each individual for it to work for the entire species.

Here's another query for our DTT posters and it's from the movie/book: Man in the Gray Flannel Suit

The most significant thing about me is:

Finish the sentence. Anyone game??

Good question but off topic. I think you should delete this post and start a new thread.

The most common answer is water/food--water more-so because you need that sooner than you need food. But Hollywood touched on the answer with mention of survival, but that's not it, because survival requires something.

I actually thought about starting a new thread, but on second thought I would be very afraid of the posts. Cartoons? Memes? Profanity? Naked ladies? LOL

This group is so unpredictable.
Thanks from RNG and GhostRider
