Creative Writing

I had a concept lately that, as a way to get us together in a way that's not political, we should try our hand at creative writing together. I personally enjoy writing so maybe this is geared towards myself selfishly, but I want to encourage a creative air that'll make us a little bit more open as people. I think we have a tendency to limit ourselves here to the basics of political ideology but we're much more than that. I'd like to encourage this as a group activity to prevent this from becoming just my showcase.

In any case, I'll start off by posting a poem that I wrote this morning. It's not very long and I don't think it's very good, but it'll start us out with something fresh. I wrote this describing a good friend of mine and what he was wearing today. I suppose it hasn't really got a title, at least not yet.

Stripes of white flying down
Known the world around with much renown
Blue flashing and dashing
The lightness and the darkness clashing
Ripples, contours wrinkle
As the eye in the darkness twinkles
Grow thin, top so barren
Firing from my mind as a cannon
Magnifying lenses
Responding to assist the senses
Checkered strands of black white
There is something that is not quite right
Unsettled ambition
Clash with dreams come to the fruition
Piercing eyes of light grey
He'll see the truth I know I will pray
But now, I'm wont to lay
At the least, until the month of May

Nice idea!

This one's dedicated to Quigley.

Us vs. Them

Division’s their aim,
Power's their game.
What they're workin' to see
is hate 'tween you and me.

Their promises empty.
Their actions, quite skimpy.
And whoever we choose,
we're destined to lose.

Oh, the media tells us
what they want us to fear,
as we surf the internet or cable,
Takin’ a puff, maybe drinkin' a beer.

With whackos on one side,
fightin' whackos on the other,
In our house so divided,
who's my sister, or my brother?

Know it ain't left vs. right,
or Repub vs. Dem.
It's gotten down to the point,
where it's us vs. them.
Thanks from 04960319 and Peter the Roman

Bump this thread Pete. I hope others will share some of their stuff.

I got another:

All Round My Heart

The risk?
The usual....
Love’s but a game.
And once engaged,
it fades to black
from whence it came.

Still I remember:
Embers glow,
and flames are hot,
and love is...
…what I got.

With heat deliquescing
impediments to intimacy.
Soft healing warmth rearranges,
chaos into unity.
Not consumption,
nor subtraction,
no substitution,
and no despair,
the glow, the heat,
a sweet addition,
to cuddle round
and roundly share.

And round and round,
the flames do swirl,
around my heart,
around yours girl.

And the flames go higher,
watching spirit unfold,
feel the warmth never failing
to warm our sweet souls.

And I hold you,
feel your embrace,
I become the glow
on your sweet face.

And round and round,
the flames do swirl,
around my heart,
around yours girl.
all round my heart,
all round yours girl.

As for being scared to share, I think you ought to post it. I'm intrigued to see what your mind turns out.

Anyway, here's another work of mine. It's closer to a song. I have the guitar part written but I'll just post the lyrics now. I suppose this one hasn't got a title either, but you can call it "Leaving Alone."

Gazing in the mirror
Thought I saw you clearer
Through the haze of morning
Like the charcoal burning
Shining bright like a diamond
Flowing hair like a lion
Splinter the truth with a scream
You cannot be what you seem
In a dream

Lost in worlds of thought
Fraught with things I've sought
Caught in confusion
I'm leaving alone

Darkness effervescing
The crowd not intending
To laugh or even smile
Maybe should get some style
I'm just not feeling the same
I'm standing too close the flame
Visions floating on a stream
Filling the air with its steam
Thanks from imaginethat

Flame, dream.... great minds and all....

I like that, feel some music to it, some strong rock, not too crazy, but strong.

I'm incredibly inspired by Roger 'Syd' Barrett. He's the guy in my avatar. I think his influence on my art is profound. I can only hope to produce a fraction of the art that he did.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZaZaWcdtbY - Terrapin is one of my favorite tunes by him. It's so simple, yet so elegant.
