Interesting question

A better question is why any Legislature wastes time on this kind of futile feel-good law.

There are already plenty of laws available if a bullying victim wants to press charges.

The first step is simply to get the parents of both the bully and the victim in the Principal's office to agree what steps should be taken.

It's more a parental problem than a school problem and the school needs to get the parents involved immediately

Libbie lawmakers try to use these situations as an excuse to stifle free speech

Because kids are dying, like the bill's namesake.

Not in Michigan. As noted in the story, Michigan was one of only 3 states which lacked such laws.

The kid's parents did complain to the school while their son was still alive, and the abuse didn't stop.

Funny that you support the pro-bullying religious exemption that would have prevented the school from stopping the bullying, even if the parents and school took the action you said they should take.

Nope i don't support any exemptions

But I think that my approach of making the parents resolve the problem is far more effective than overbearing legislation from a nanny state.

If the parents of this poor kid had met the parents of the bully his life could have been saved probably

We can never know everything that is going on in the mind of a confused teenager

What kind of moron appeals to "free speech" as a way to excuse bullying, especially bullying that results in suicide?

In other words homosexuals try to use anti bullying laws to become bullies.

Ironic that such bigoted morons are using the anti-bully law as an excuse to attack gays, especially given that the dead kid the bill was named after wasn't gay.

I hate it when everything is blamed on the parents. It's the coward's way of dealing with delinquent children.

What kind of moron assumes that to be the case?

I already condemned bullying whatever the reason - I have yet to see you agree on that

California's recent homosexual history law is a blatant attempt to stifle free speech

LOL

Yes how outrageous that we should expect parents to be responsible for their children instead of teachers or other state workers!

So why is this a gay issue at all? Why isn't it a bullying issue?

Did you find the wording from that Bill yet so we can see if unicornbooty.com was being fair and balanced?

I guess we shouldn't be surprised that a homophobic racist like Gary opposes anti-bullying laws.

That children kill themselves because of the hate he advocates isn't his problem, it's theirs.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised when shriek lies.

I have said that anti-bullying laws are not the best way to resolve the bullying problem

And that this is a parental problem, not the teacher's problem

When children kill themselves it can be due to a variety of factors, none of which you know about in this case

What is sad is that morons like you try to turn tragedies like this into infomercials for homosexuality

Encouraging confused children to dabble in homosexuality can also lead to suicide
