Yep, that can be a problem ... when a little fear is warranted. Many people mistakenly believe that courage is the absence of fear.

It's not. It's the ability to manage fear.

I would change what I said a little to the point that I did have some fear, I just didn't let it control my choices or decisions. I'm very pragmatic and think about things before acting or reacting.

I agree with you.

Sounds like you became a bully. The abyss stared back.

bullies bad, first page of suggestions said don't tell your kid to take a stand, they might get hurt or expelled. in retrospect, hurt or expelled would have been better.

talking to school teachers or administrators never goes well, they usually treat bullying as a dispute between two students, which the bullies tend to make sure it never is. they always have their toadies.

i did the ignore them thing, i did the talk to the teachers thing, i did the deflect with humor thing(sometimes worked) but best is just stand up say, "you feelin froggy? Let's jump". and have at it, it's not really important that you win or don't get hurt, more important they know you aint a freebie.

Okay, everyone. You all want to hear how our schoolyard bully got a payback:

Catholic grammar school, NYC...8th grade. Carlos X was BIG. He was a bad mf'er, too. Every day he took Duncan McP's lunch...took a bite out of it...and threw the rest up on the school roof. After a couple of weeks of this, Duncan made a patty out of his German Shepard's morning turd...breaded it...and fried it. He made the best-looking sandwich possible. He called it a "German Shitzel Burger". Carlos, true to form...tried it..a couple of bites and a couple of swallows. It took a while but he figgured it out...

What was REALLY funny were The Penguins. They tried all they could not to laugh, turning away and pinching their nose closed so as not to laugh...but laugh they did...they totally lost their reserve...never seen anything like that before or since. I can still see the look on that fat oinker's face. Sure, Duncan had the hell beat outta him...but he was laughing all the way though it. So was the whole freakin' school.

i left out:

tell your kids being expelled, suspended or in trouble at school aint that bad. its much worse to let the bullies get away with it.

worse for you, worse for them, and worse for the next kid they start on.

Teach your kid to fight. Bullies don't like opposition.

I did the same thing.. I was bullied in 7th grade. I finally got tire of it and got into a fight with the guy Bullying me.. we were caught fighting by Coach Richman.. he took us to the gym got the boxing gloves out.. and said Go at it boys.... .. we got tired of fighting, he said no keep on going we could not hold our arms up he said Okay.. Shake hands and go get out of here..

That Guy was the Best Man at my wedding we became friends for life..

Bullies need to be stood up to.. this way you earn their respect and they will stop bullying
Thanks from imaginethat
