I do think that the internet plays a part in this. The anonymity that the internet affords allows a level of viciousness that was unheard of in the past. There are people in this very forum that are examples of that. And they are supposed to be emotionally mature adults.

The internet increases our awareness of just about everything.

I agree that part of this is an increase in awareness.

But part of it is also a loss of civility. This comes from the anonymity of the internet. It's one thing to call people names or to question their morality when you have to expose yourself to do it....it's quite another when you can do it and no one knows who you are.

Baghdad Gary.....?

I am more than willing to call you that to your face if you want.

I'm not offended by a rather feeble and outdated joke that needs to be explained to most people. I feel sorry for people you know who have to suffer your attempts at humour on a regular basis.

I just wanted to point out the hypocrisy of your feigned sanctimoniousness.

If we ever met we would probably both be a lot more civil but I would still wipe the floor with you in any debate.

Absolutely.

Few who "stand for the truth" on the internet would be so "bold" face-to-face. The evolution of bullying since 1990 has resulted in internet bullies, gormless, ever-wanking cowards who often take cover behind "We The People."

Why do you think you would be able to "wipe the floor" with me in a debate face to face when you can't even do it here on the forum?

It's why you have earned the nickname B.G.....you live in your own little fantasy world where reality rarely intrudes.

You are the last person to talk about bullying on the internet.

Have you suspended anybody today or sent them any threatening PM's?

Wow, saying that I am willing to call you Baghdad Gary to your face is now considered bullying?

There is no threat stated or even implied there. I have no desire to physically assualt you, or even publically humiliate you (although you do just fine on your own with humiliating yourself in public).

I am just making the statement that anything I say on this forum I am more than willing to say in the real world....and face to face with anyone that disagrees with me.

I am not ashamed of what I believe and what I stand for....and I truly do believe what I say.

If you see that as "bullying" then you have some issues.

I wouldn't consider it bullying.

The bottom line is I really wouldn't care all that much. I might ask why but that would be the end of it.

This forum is not that important to me.

In fact I took a voluntary break from here for a couple of months...so if I got booted from here, I would move on with my life...and I wouldn't lose one second of sleep.

But, even more importantly, I don't worry about it because I don't berate the moderators over their job performance, I don't attack other posters over their personal life and I try (although I sometimes fail I admit) not to get down the gutter with other posters.
