And, the subsequent fines imposed aren't going to make any matters better. Banks are hesitant to make loans to people in jail so that they can pay off traffic fines.

I hate writing this sort of bond, the $200 bond, because the often get "forgotten" by the bailee...

Sometimes people involved in this situation are good people.
More often than not the price of the bail is very similar to the cost of the fine in the end. Odd how that works out.

Once a danger to society and flight risks are determined at the bond hearing, it is the judge's discretion on bond. This jay case seems way out of bounds according to what evidence is available.

No, justice isn't served. But I have witnessed a beggar getting just a hair short of assault trying to get a handout, usually from an older woman, and if confronted, they would say basically "Fuck you. The cops won't touch me. The courts know it's no sense fining me. and if they bust me I get three squares for a few days and the judge releases me."

Well, that ain't justice, either.
Thanks from Sabcat

That crime has a "victim" and IMO that person has become a threat to society.

We have a fair amount of homeless here but they for the most part stay in check. Most of the panhandling is done on freeway exits when the people are in their cars but they don't touch your cars or throw shit at you. It is absolutely forbidden at bus stops and transit stations. They stay w/in those parameters and the cops don't bug them but when they don't they do and if they become bothersome they do and if become a known threat or repeat annoyance or problematic the cops become serious. It is a tight nit community and being black balled from food lines, shelters and food shelves could becom detrimental.

We do not have many here in Texas. I think it is legal to shoot them. I know you can shoot the guys who run up and start washing your windows at red lights. But the limit is three per week.

So I get to pay a bond but if your poor you do not have to? That is fair? Sorry I do not see it that way at all.

In Beaumont the tweekers begged during the day, and at night the heroin addicts begged. They had a system

Why should anyone pay ?
If the judge considers the defendant a threat to any witnesses or likely to abscond they don't get bail, if not they should be released until their trial without any financial penalty.

I would agree with that if then failure to appear without just cause results in a mandatory 5 year sentence. Twice I have had to appear in court as a witness to a traffic accident. In both cases, there were multiple instances of a police officer or two, and multiple witnesses sitting in court waiting for someone who had been released on his own recognizance but they don't show up. Both a waste and an injustice.
