You are confused.

They used coercion to make him apologize, with the threat being they would reveal his name if he did not play ball. And if he does something in the future they don't like (keeping their eye on him - very 1984) they reserve the right to publicly name him.

They had the right to name him outright but went the above route instead. Thus violating laws of several states and maybe federal law as well.
Thanks from Sabcat

Nice personal insults / flame. I bet you never best that poster in an actual debate though. Yeah, thus the flame.

Nope. He had, and still has, every right and ability to say "Fuck you, I meant it all and will not apologize." Hardly CNN's problem the guy has no spine.

I like the irony here. The guy uses mass media to slander a company while hiding behind anonyminity.
Remove the anonyminity where HE might face negative consequences due to mass media and suddenly he turns chicken shit and goes down faster than a bottle of Scotch at Charlie Sheen's house.

The truth is you guys don't have grounds. This is all pompous handwaving demanding to be taken seriously.

And while the accusation fails on so many fundamental levels, the easiest demonstration of its failure is in this...
(a) A person commits the offense of theft by extortion when he unlawfully obtains property of or from another person by threatening to:
What property did CNN obtain?

Revealing his identity is not the issue. The issue is blackmailing the person to keep quiet. That is against the law.

What a shame you are not able to say the the anti-CNN people display more logic and reasonableness to support their arguments than do the anti-CNN people.

But you can't, can you? ALL you can do is talk about how LOUD they can cry.
No wonder your into childish, vulgar insults. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease"? Is that your motto?

If you have something in this you find significant, then call it out.
Otherwise, I've wasted my time with too many people who blindly throw links out to even try to mindread what you think is important in that.

That is all that matters.
This is what you backpedal onto...

If CNN demanded money in order to not publish the name, that could be arguably blackmailing. But nothing of the sort happened here.

CNN publishes identity information all the time. That's what news organizations do.
Does that somehow magically make them guilty of something?

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Like what you just did.

Document where CNN did this.
With quotes.

The people on the right keep posting their assessment of what happened while repeatedly failing to actually document factual chains of events.

This is one perfect example.
CNN said they could still publicize the name. Which is their right.

The "And if he does something in the future they don't like..." is your editorializing with your imagination. Claiming facts never shown.

Quote the law.
The one already quoted demonstrates PROPERTY has to be given up. Like a blackmail victim giving up money.

There is no property given up here.
To try to label this as blackmail is dumb.

What did I say in that post that was vulgar or an insult?
