Meet Sophia: The first robot declared a citizen by Saudi Arabia

It's a bit of an irony that the first female robot citizen turns up in Saudi Arabia.

When I read this, I had a specie-specific "BullShit" reaction all through my body.
When asked about the evil futuristic robots depicted in films like Blade Runner 2049, Sophia said humans have nothing to fear. “You’ve been reading too much Elon Musk and watching too many Hollywood movies....”
I'm viscerally suspicious of that. OK, I'm bigoted toward silicon-based life, at least for now. Here's Sophie.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Meet Sophia: a smart and outspoken… robot. Saudi Arabia on Wednesday made the advanced lifelike humanoid robot a citizen, the first country to grant citizenship to a robot.

Sophia Robot, an advanced lifelike humanoid robot, spoke October 25 at a panel on robotics and artificial intelligence at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference in Riyadh, shortly before being declared a citizen of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the first country to grant citizenship to a robot.

Sophia was built by Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics Ltd., which says its humanlike robots have remarkable expressiveness, aesthetics, and interactivity.

The announcement was made at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) summit in Riyadh, a major investment conference hosted by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) that aims to highlight the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 plan for the future.

“We have a little announcement. We just learnt, Sophia; I hope you are listening to me, you have been awarded the first Saudi citizenship for a robot,” said panel moderator Andrew Ross Sorkin, Co-anchor of CNBC’s “Squawk Box”.

“Thank you to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction,” Sophia told the panel. “It is historic to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with citizenship.”

Can she drive a car?

This is terrifying. At the rate we are going this is tje begining of the end. Nothing that is self aware and logical would allow the human race to continue as it is.

A few weeks ago, details leaked that Elon Musk had backed a brain-computer interface venture founded to allow humans to keep up with the advancements made in machine intelligence. The company – Neuralink – is still in the earliest stages of development. To that end, we don’t know very much about it (at all).

However, we aren’t entirely in the dark. We know a few things. For example, we know that the company’s ultimate goal is to develop a device (a brain-computer interface, to be exact) that could be implanted into the brain in order to augment (see: improve) human intelligence. It could allow us to store memories externally, learn new skills and languages in seconds, and bring an end to diseases like Alzheimer’s. Of course, such work will take time. But Musk hopes to expedite this development through his work.

They are self cleaning, it's the big attraction, because it removes the major downsides to prostitution.
No diseases are spread and no one is exploited.
