The ideal man

What does the ideal man look like? I would say the ideal man today is very different from the ideal man of the past. With today's consciousness, Theodore Roosevelt's manliness can look like a cartoon that makes us laugh, but in his day being that man was important to leading our nation. Contrasting him to Trump or any of our modern presidents, could be very interesting.

Reagan is part of the John Wayne generation. Captain Kirk of Star Trek is the John Wayne of space. Captain Picard who followed Captain Kirk is of the groupthink generation. Compared with Kirk, Picard is a wimp.

Where would you like to start? I think as long as we call men like Alexander the Great great men, instead of complete jerks, we will promote a war mentality and a macho ideal for men.

Men like Galileo, Newton, Einstein, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, give us a very different image of ideal men.

Carter and Obama are thinking men slow to make decisions and resistant to taking military action. Bush and Trump are proud to make snap decisions without too much thinking and advance military power.

It's a very narrow gate

The ideal man? We'd probably have to start by saying what qualities we're looking for as ideal. My first suggestion would be to exclude Show Biz & politics - certainly as practiced in the last few decades. Of the political people in the US who might make the cut, I'd suggest Pres. Lincoln.

My ideal man?? Well, I've already got him, but here are some of HIS best qualities:

Loyal, smart, educated, funny, honest, loving, responsible, generous, easy going, respectful and.....CUTE. AND, as my mother used to say to me "He deserves a medal for putting up with you!" TRUE.

These are in no particular order because they are ALL important. BTW, my sons also share these qualities!

I have an old book on love and marriage, written by a minister who said wives must tame these beasts.

What would you say is good about the monster?

The monster has power. Power controlled can do good.

I would say being easy going is extremely valuable. A man whom I admired very much was a mayor of a small town who respected what everyone said, and was a strong leader because he was so easy going he could get arguing people to agree on what were the problems and what needed to be done to resolve them.

I also very much admire Obama although I do not agree with all his decisions and at times felt very disappointed. Reading his book lead to me having a good opinion of him. It was not easy for him to succeed in politics and he was idealistic.

Marton Luther King was a strong leader. Oh, and John Kennedy "Ask not what your country can do for you, but you can do for your country". Carter continued to work for humanity and his ideals even after his presidency ended.

All these men fall short of perfection and that makes their achievements even more impressive. They achieved so much despite all the disadvantages of being human.

Do you not mean an ideal leader? Is this not the gist of the original point?

Ah, and why does the monster have power? What controls the power so it results in good and not bad?

Carter and Obama are not my ideal leaders. But then neither are Bush or Trump. Washington or Lincoln top the list as the ideal leaders for a state like the US. All the rest redefine what the US is along ideological lines, not its true character.
