"Myrtle Beach Police Capt. Joey Crosby told WMBF via email that the officer went to the restaurant after an employee called to report a man asking for money in the parking lot. Both Gallo and the homeless man vehemently deny that accusation in the recorded video."

Looks to me like the McDonalds' employee lied.

Nice gesture on Gallo's part.

If I'd been there, I would have called 911 to report police harassment of a lawful customer. Might have helped to call the news, too. News crews eat this stuff up.

I know what the lesson is: don't go to McDonald's in Myrtle Beach.

There was a young woman with two little kids asking for spare change at the CVS a few weeks ago (well, maybe months now). I asked the kids if they were hungry and they nodded yes. I took all three next door to Subway and bought them lunch (I've been told not to give money because it often goes to drugs or alcohol and not the kids). They were OBVIOUSLY poverty stricken and not terribly clean - but Subway did not treat them any differently than they did me or any other customer. I left them sitting in that chain restaurant enjoying their lunch - and actually smiling.
The abuse heaped on that elderly man at the McDonald's Myrtle Beach is inexcusable.
Thanks from Camelot, Hollywood and Clara007

Today's lesson, if it hurts don't do it. Weekly test, next Friday.

It was just a little odd that he was seated with a view of the homeless man.

It is a very tough decision. I care a lot about people, and that is a problem for me. I keep giving away money I should not give away because I really don't have money to give away. I am a caregiver and often do more for others than I should. Like I annoy people with my mothering. This all adds up to I feel very uncomfortable when people are looking for a handout and it is not good for businesses when people are not comfortable.

I wish all communities had adequate services for people who need help, and that people looking for help were not hanging around businesses.

That does not work. Sometimes we have to do it because it is the right thing to do, even though we know it is going to hurt. Or sometimes the consequences of not doing it will be worse. Seeking pleasure and avoiding pain, and not the bottom line. I think we must also question if there any options and is this the right thing to do? But even then, our decisions will not be all logical. We all have internal impulses that can complete defy reason.

I will repeat, I wish every community had adequate services.
