Hand in pocket, on gun, it's easy

to react to a signal, draw and hit, at arm's length ranges, in .70 second. .20 sec of that is your reaction time. So the draw and hit takes just .50 second. If you start FIRST, it's HIM that has to notice what's in your hand, react, and fire. If you side step as you draw, he'll need at least .60 second to recognize the threat, decide to fire, and move his arm over to your new location. so you'll hit him first. That does NOT mean that he wont still be able to fire, multiple times, perhaps, before he collapses. front pants pocket holster is thus a way to be reasonably able to respond to a threat, without having to put in 100's of hours of CCW draw practice, "clearing" your shirttail (reliably and swiftly).

If you're really trained and practiced, you can react, draw and hit in .50 second at arm's length, or in .70 second, you can react, draw, sidestep and hit at 10 ft. So basically, if you're competent, and you have your hand in your pocket at the slightest hint of any risks, they have to just shoot you out of hand, or they'll get shot. If you are smart, you'll wear armor any time that you're armed, which can buy you the time to hit either the first guy 5x more, or hit two of his buddies twice each. That's really good for your peace of mind, in some areas at some times.

Today, airsoft practice can give you that sort of skill very quickly, safely and cheaply. CED electronics sells an airsoft shot timer, which they SAY is ok to use with a .22lr , OUTDOORS. I haven't tried that as of yet. To get the sensitivity to hear the little "phht" sound of the airsoft's firing, and not be damaged by live fire, is quite a range of sensitivity for a little, tied on the back of your hand microphone.

Screw drawing the weapon. Carry a revolver and fire from inside the pocket. First shot to his knee, second to the head as he flops on the ground.
