My Morning Line Favorite

Months before the Republican nominee convention in 2016 my dream ticket was Ted Cruz and Mike Lee before Trump picked up steam. Lee was not running, but I saw him as the best Veep since Thomas Jefferson.

Senator Mike Lee was the only Republican who was saying total repeal. Lee proves something I always knew. Republicans will never repeal Obamacare.

This next one is a half-a-tick behind withdrawing from the United Nations.

Four years ago U.S. Senator Mike Lee pointed out that the United Nations was designed to be a debating society not a global government:

Lee describes the treaty as “extending far beyond the basic purposes for which the U.N. was created,” adding that the sole purpose of the U.N. is to be a “forum to discuss and resolve international problems.”

Incidentally, even if the United Nations becomes the debating society it is supposed to be, I would take diplomatic immunity away from everyone connected to the U.N. in any capacity. Diplomatic immunity should be granted to a few people attached to foreign embassies —— ambassadors and their spouses —— not given to members of an ORGANIZATION which is what the U.N. is.

If for no other reason than diplomatic immunity the U.N. should be relocated on the most isolated island available; preferably one that is located in the coldest year-around climate where U.N. charity hustlers would freeze their balls off. (A vision of the Frankenstein monster floating away on a big chunk of ice comes to mind.) Or perhaps on an island way out on the western end of the Aleutian Chain where it would not matter what the sponges do. Out of sight out of mind is the way to go if they cannot be shut them down completely.

NOTE: Most people in the world think of the United Nations as its member states. Nothing is further from the truth. The United Nations is U.N. officials and worker-bee bureaucrats working for the New World Order crowd.

The U.S. Constitution and democracy are like fire and water. They cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Any strict originalist like Senator Lee surely knew that tax dollars were being spent promoting democracy when he reminded President Trump that:

The mission of USAID, which has a $22.7 billion annual budget, is to fight poverty and promote democracy abroad.

Finally, all things considered, Associate Justice Mike Lee would be replacing Scalia not Kennedy:

I can predict the outcome of specific SCOTUS cases with 100 percent accuracy, while I have not predicted the next associate since Senators Kennedy and Biden did a hatchet job on my guy Robert Bork. I am sure the drunk and the man who was never right about anything were pleased when they got Anthony Kennedy.

I can only say that my choice is looking good before Trump announces his choice:

Pundits left and right view Lee as the likely choice, too. Vox Magazine lists him as a conservative favorite, as does U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, radio host Mark Levin, and the Governor of Utah. Bloomberg News reports that he is in active consideration.

Last of all, Lee’s appointment would not risk the GOP Senate Caucus majority. Despite the precarious partisan divide, Lee’s seat would not fall into Democratic hands. He won re-election in 2016 by an overwhelming margin. The Governor of Utah could appoint the solid, well-known Dr. Michael Kennedy to replace Lee without any trouble.. There’s no chance of a Roy Moore redux occurring in Utah.

No longer SCOTUS and now called The Supremes. No wonder that Maxine Waters is calling for open rebellion.

Anthony Kennedy was liberal on social issues, and John Roberts’ vote on Obamacare shows that he is not to be trusted whenever a hardcore Democrat issue is threatened. The best Americans can hope for is a slight change regardless of Trump’s pick because the head count remains the same. In short: The SCOTUS will still have four anti-Constitution Lefty’s on the court.

Should Trump get another pick the head count would be 6 to 3. Six to three is a major change to be sure, but it will take 7 to 2 bring about a change of seismic proportions.

Democrats will hook Baby Ruth up to a ventilator to maintain the 5 to 4 balance:

Heaven help the parasite class if two libs bite the dust before Trump leaves office. There is one caveat.

President Trump has to hang tough when push comes to shove.

Trump can practice hanging tough by nominating Mike Lee:

Incidentally, does anyone know if a president can make a recess appointment for Supreme Court justices? Probably not, but Trump should look into it.

Trump sounded like he was giving Kavanaugh a Salesman of the Year Award:

From everything I learned about Kavanaugh before he was nominated I see no reason for conservatives to dance in the streets. If Kavanaugh was running for office he would get his campaign slogan from Arnold Schwarzenegger “I am a fiscal conservative and a social liberal.” California conservatives know how that turned out.

Bottom line: Mitch McConnell was going to confirm an establishment Republican come hell or high water. So long as the split in the Senate remains tight the majority leader picks Supreme Court justices —— not the president. To me, it looks Trump is getting Advice and Consent from McConnell:

Article Two: Clause 2: Advice and Consent Clause

The President exercises the powers in the Advice and Consent Clause with the advice and consent of the Senate.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
p.s. One would think McConnell owes Trump big time for making his wife Secretary of Transportation:
