Wilson's heckle raises hackles on Facebook, Twitter

Two words, delivered with index finger punctuating the air and directed at the president of the United States, made a little-known South Carolina congressman one of the most reviled men on the Internet -- at least Wednesday heading into Thursday.

The let me be the first Democrat to defend the republican Congressman. Heckling is free speech. We do not live in a dictatorship and he has every right to speak his mind.

BUt there's "free speech" and then there the decorum we'd expect in this particular setting. And he typified the kind of disrespect that the nation in general is showing for the office now.

Joe Wilson's 'You Lie' Shout During Obama Health Care Speech - ABC News

He crossed the "line". He wasn't on the playground.

I fully agree, I despise Obama and the Democrats that are leading the House and Senate but you shouldn't scream out "you lie" even if it's the truth no more than you should stand and face away from the speaker as though you were being forced to be there.

I found this link CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - Wilson apologizes: ‘I let my emotions get the best of me’ - Blogs from CNN.com and I haven't read it but says the congressman still is calling Obama a liar but apologizes for the outburst.

Fox news also pointed out that Obama uses numbers of uninsured Americans that include non-American illegal Mexican and other nationalities that are in America illegally...

He has the right to free speech, but you have to admit that Joe Wilson was very acting disrespectful towards the President. There is a difference between respectful disagreement and being an outright dick. And of course he was wrong, there is nothing in the House bill about giving illegal immigrants health insurance, nor has President Obama ever indicated that he wants to give them insurance. In fact the only mention of illegals (Or the undocumented) in the bill, comes from Subtitle C, Section 246, under the headline, " NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS." (It's even written in capital letters for the fact-impaired.) The text below that reads:

"Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."

Simply put, illegal immigrants would be ineligible for government assistance for buying health insurance.

Given that Joe Wilson is a member of the House of Representatives and that the House has drafted a health care reform bill, a bill that doesn't give illegals insurance; and knowing that by logic, Republicans must have read the bill since they are so outspokenly against it, can we call him a liar for claiming otherwise? Given that we have a President who doesn't seem at all to be in favor of giving illegal immigrants insurance, can we call him a liar for claiming otherwise?

Would it be apt for when we see Rep Wilson the next time, we shout, "You lie!"? Well he's either a liar or he's one of an apparently growing number of angry GOPers who haven't read up on what exactly they hate.

Fmr. President George W. Bush's most ardent critics in the legislature never pulled this shit during a State of the Union speech or an address to a joint session of Congress. No member of the House or Senate openly heckled him when he spoke to them.

Obama did lie about illegals getting in on the health care program... all last year and most of this year he spoke of 47 million uninsured Americans and in the speech he said 30 million. The missing 17 million are the illegals. Last night on the O'Reilly program Ann Coulter doubled down on calling Obama a liar and also called him a liar about funding abortion... Common sense rules for the majority of Americans that are not liberal or progressive liberals... She simply stated the Republicans offered amendments to the health care bill going through congress that was put up for a vote... bill one, US citizenship documents will be required to use the new health care program: Voted down by Democrats. Bill, two, US funds will not be used to perform abortions: Voted down by Democrats.

Death panels: The Democrats put the authorization for death/medical rationing into the Stimulus Package passed earlier this year along with the money for electronic health records.

Fox News again? After the speech, Hannity claimed that the President said "Insurance executives are bad people.", when in fact the opposite is true. He totally made it up. With that and Glenn Beck's recent bullshittery, I'm not really trusting Fox News right now.

There is nothing in the bil that says illegals would get public insurance, they're explicitly banned from getting subsidies to buy insurance. And as for abortions, again nothing in the bill permits federal funding for abortions, nor does it overturn the Hyde Amendment which explicitly bans such a practice. We don't need extra feel-good fluff, the bill is big enough as it is lol.

The Recovery Act explicitly states that the Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research would have no such powers. It is prohibited from issuing out recommendations or guidelines for treatments.

Sec. 802 "Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research."
, Part G states the following:

(g) RULES OF CONSTRUCTION.—

(1) COVERAGE.—Nothing in this section shall be construed

to permit the Council to mandate coverage, reimbursement,

or other policies for any public or private payer.

(2) REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS.—None of the reports

submitted under this section or recommendations made by the

Council shall be construed as mandates or clinical guidelines

for payment, coverage, or treatment.

Again, there are no death panels.

BTW, Joe Wilson's opponent, Rob Miller has rasied a fuckton of money since the outburst. This fundraising hub was at $30,000 just after the President's address to Congress ended.
