Evidently, you hate yourself to leave such a glorious country to live in the pit of hell. And any idea of your "helping" the savages is completely negated by your pompous arrogance.

Until I met you, I'd liked every Brit I'd ever met.

As my buddy ryder pointed out earlier, Americans dislike being told how they stack up and that is often a reason why they lag behind.

There's an inbuilt self-belief that nobody could possibly do anything better.

And I've known a lot of Brits. My father's business partner was a Brit, a fine man. In his company, which I worked for during summer break for five years, I worked closely with an Englishman and a Scot. I learned a lot from both.

They had high praise for the US, which was why they chose the US over Britain, and emigrated here with their families.
I love the US too but have discovered it's not all it's made out to be and is losing some of its lustre. And I seriously think Americans lose out by being too stubborn and closed-minded about what works in other countries.

Financially I think I would have been better off staying in the UK. Being self-employed in the US is expensive, high taxes plus expensive health insurance plus college fees plus plus plus.

Still it was my decision and I don't regret moving here. I've met some great people and my wife loves it. I hope it turns out to be the right decision for my children.
So do I.

However, I've never met a Brit like you, constantly putting down the country to which he or she emigrated, which is a strange attitude when your living here was a matter of choice.

Those stubborn Americans to which you refer can mostly be found to the right of center.
I don't only put the country down I often sing its praises.

On DTT I like to provide the more insular members with more objective advice as someone who has seen a lot of the world and experienced life in many countries

Here's a random thought.

When I was growing up, my mum was relentless concerning my word usage and grammar. She insisted that I spoke "the Queen's English" (her words).
Apparently she didn't teach you to use the Queen's Spelling!

Seriously if the US ever loses its role as the #1 military and economic superpower - warts and all - we are all in trouble

You bet your ass we are all in trouble.

Here's some right-wing rhetoric that makes sense. The European nations were able to pursue their socialistic ends because the US assumed the responsibility of protecting the free world. That's damned hard to argue with, even now.

However, the profits involved in national offense are greater than the profits involved in national defense, and including the Vietnam War, all of the US' wars since then have been acts of national offense.

On topic, I hope most atheists oppose national offense, and I cannot think of one reason why all Christians should not oppose national offense.

About the spelling, Brit English is sorta stilted. I mean spelling humor - hu- mor - "humour"? Hu-mwah? It's a French aristocratic pollution of English. I mean, really....

I never did like that damned Lee Greenwood song anyway. I always wanted to make a spoof video for it -- footage of obese Americans chucking down McDonald's food, transposed with images of starving Africans and Vietnamese child napalm victims.
