School shooter Adam Lanza is reported to have been diagnosed with Aspergerís Syndrome, which is a form of Autism. Some reports say he was also diagnosed with a personality disorder. In this series, I examine what this means by asking experts and activists what we should blame for school shootings and what we should do about it. In Part 1, we examine the role of psychiatric drugs.

Ann Blake-Tracy, author and Executive Director of International Coalition for Drug Awareness, says, ďAfter spending 20 plus years working to wake up the world to the most extreme dangers of antidepressants this last shooting makes me angry at a society that continues to allow prescription medications on the market that have listed side effects of both homicidal & suicidal ideation in their warnings. Why is that acceptable when we have documented involvement of antidepressants in 67 cases of school shootings in our database of cases at http://www.ssristories.com. Although these drugs are most similar in action to PCP (Angel Dust) they continue to be widely prescribed and are the most commonly prescribed drugs for Aspergers which this shooter was diagnosed with.Ē

Drugs are what pass for mental health care these days. Drugs and therapy. Judging from the increasing number of messed up teens and 20-somethings, this strategy is not working.

I was listening to Michael Reagan, maybe 5 years or so ago, and he said something that stuck in my head. He was talking about, even then, all the ADD medications being prescribed. He said he grew up in Catholic schools with nuns. He said that if someone had ADD or could not pay attention, a nun would hit them with a ruler and knock the ADD out of them.

Hereís how psychiatric drugs work.

*

Brain disorders are most often the result of a chemical imbalance, which means the neurotransmitters are not at their appropriate levels.* Excessive dopamine production, for example, is a common problem for psychiatric patients.* Medications available in this country do not attempt in any shape or fashion to cure this overproduction, they merely attempt to mask the problem.

*

They do so by introducing compounds into the system that resemble the structure of the dopamine molecule. *These compounds will then bond to some of the dopamine receptors in the brain, taking up the space where natural dopamine would attach. The net effect is less dopamine is absorbed in the brain.

*

So the patient still suffers from excessive dopamine production, its effects are simply muted by the medicine.*

*

As it turns out, a great deal of research has been performed into the root causes of excessive dopamine production.* The short version of the answer is that vitamins and nutrients can be introduced into the system to increase GABBA production, which regulates dopamine production.* If the brain were a car, dopamine would be the accelerator and GABBA would be the regulator that prohibits the car from accelerating too fast.

*

And the good news is that anyone can go to a health food store and purchase GABBA for pennies a pill.* The bad news is that the FDA does not recognize GABBA on their approved drug list for psychiatric patients.* Instead, only drugs that mask the problem and cost $16 a pill make the list.* Try mentioning the word GABBA to a psychiatrist and they will change the subject immediately.

*

Itís not that psychiatrists donít know about natural cures, itís just that they cannot legally discuss them with patients.* Thanks FDA.

*

Imagine you had a broken arm and went to the hospital.* If that hospital functioned under the rules of the mental health system all they could do for you is prescribe a pain killer.* They could under no circumstances fix the broken arm.

*

Thatís how our mental health system operates in America.

This was a research project I was working on while at college in nashville..*** ADD is a resllut of allowing < 2 and < 3 year olds to watch TV..

TV subject, scenes, etc change every 3 minutes..* Childern do not develope the ablity to concentrate for more than a few minutes.

*

We are finding out that Childern that are put in front of the TV <2-3 years old..* HAVE A 500+% rate of ADD HDAD and autism rates.
