Why can't we work together to get stuff done rather than worry about each others political affiliation?

waitingtables January 7th, 2013 04:39 AM

I think it began in earnest with talk radio and Fox News and 24 hours cable "news". *So what used to be a smaller group of partisans on both sides, kind of became something that the masses ended up being included in seeing and hearing daily.*

Great question. The real answer I think lies in values and the deception so many have fallen for that money and financial progress is the most important, and if money which represent limited resources is the most important then we need to be selfish to survive and get our own for there is not enough resources for everyone to be millionaires, celebrities and have slaves to pamper them. Then money becomes more important than human lives and there is no reason to care about others as they become a competition to the resources we value, a immoral stand-point which also promotes lies, greed and insensitivity, hate and fear.

*

If on the contrary our values become truth, love, courage, character, peace and happiness which are all eternal values and has no shortage then others are no competition or threat to us, for love and truth gets better the more it is shared. Then political affiliations stop to matter because truth, love, peace and happiness is at the dept of what every human being desire and we can start to work together rather than against eachother.

Love your threads.

Id agree media carries much of the blame.* But with over 90% of the media leaning hard left it seems delusional to blame it all on the 10% that disagree with your own views.

*

Personally, I trace it back to the Clinton years.* When the Hil-Billies first hit the Oval Office the media tore them to shreds.* They were systematically breaking every rule, both written and unwritten, each and every day.* And a new major scandal would break about once a week.

*

A few years into the house of mirrors created by the White House it was clear that not only could the scandals bring down the administration, but it would likely bring down a good portion of the entire government as well.* The CIA was caught running drugs, the entire banking system was corrupt, the military complex was out of control, and Justice Department had crooked tentacles reaching into every corner of the country.* The house of cards that was the US government was set to fall.

*

Thats when Clinton played his trump card.

*

He made it clear to each and every media head that if he goes down so will the entire US government.* And the deals were struck to where one by one they backed off the Clintons.* Even prestigious magazine such as Forbes caved into the pressure.* The worm had turned.

*

The bargains made all those years ago left us with what we have today.* And were silly enough to fall right in line with a divided media that is so twisted and distorted no one tells the truth anymore.* We seem to like it that way.

If the media carry much of the blame would that not include the media leaning to the right?

*

If we are to show blame, lets get specific about what it is that makes the media to blame, what it is that they do wrong and do to cause division. And if you go deep enough down I think you will find that it is the lack of honesty which comes because of a materialistic focus of a limited resource which promotes dishonesty and competition. After all isn't the media needing financial funding and very competitive and dishonest?

*

And here I speak of the media in general. I don't think it makes any difference if the media is leaning left or right, but sides have the same values and both sides are competitive and dishonest. If nothing else both sides are a side and so are responsible for there being a division in the first place. To blame one side or another for a division is like blaming only one person for a failed marriage or a contentious argument. It makes no sense.

*

If there is a division and the division is the problem, then the problem lies in ALL who divides, and that would include ALL the partizans on BOTH sides.

I agree with the time frame, but I wouldn't ascribe it to the Clintons. I would ascribe it to the man who really did do the most to put us where we are today and that is in fact, Newt Gingrich. * His handiwork has a lot to do with what divided this country and still does.

KnightOfSappho January 7th, 2013 05:21 AM

I agree that the media had definitely added to the problem.

*

The campaigning has become increasingly negative since the 80's and at the media has even assigned team/gang colors to opposing sides.

waitingtables January 7th, 2013 05:44 AM

I also think that the actions taken by Newt Gingrich when he was Speaker of the House had a lot to do with what we see now as divisive and divided government, and the citizens.

Nienna January 7th, 2013 05:49 AM

All of you are right about the*media playing a part, but try to look a little deeper. Who promotes the media? Who finance them? Who determines what they show? What watches it and listens to it, believing it? What is the source of this division, deception and evil?

waitingtables January 7th, 2013 05:54 AM

Yes, monied andcorporate interests do, and they also seem to control our politicians as well.*
