Media Bias vs. Israel

I ran across this post on my Corvette site and thought it was interestiing and worthy of discussion.

News Media Bias

Perhaps one reason Israel fails at genocide is that it isn't interested in genocide? That would explain why Israel warned thousands of Gazans by cell phone to leave homes near Hamas rocket stockpiles. It would clarify why, even amid all-out war, it offers aid to enemy civilians. It would even illuminate the otherwise mysterious clamor from Israelis for a viable 'peace partner.' But no. For millions of Israel haters, the more plausible explanation is that the 'defiant' Palestinians have miraculously survived Israel's determination to wipe them out. Meanwhile, calls for the complete extermination of Israel are routine. ... A sick mixture of Holocaust envy and Holocaust denial is the defining spirit of Hamas. ... It's Palestinian Islamists who have ideological and political ties to Nazism stretching back to the days of 'Hitler's Mufti,' Haj Amin al-Husseini, a happy warrior for the Nazi cause. So why the obsession with casting the Israelis as the new Hitlerites? One answer is surely that critics know such charges are painful to a country largely born of the Holocaust and marked by its scars. It also grabs attention, galvanizes radicals, vents legitimate frustrations and anger, and helps demonize the enemy and, hence, justify the murder of 'Zionists everywhere,' as Hamas often declares in its communiqués. But I think the desire to cast the Israelis as Nazis is fueled, deep down, by the haters' need to see their own hatreds and ambitions mirrored in their enemy's actions. Hamas has an avowedly Hitlerite agenda. The only way to make such an agenda defensible is to convince yourself and others that the Israelis deserve it. ...[W]ith Hamas, Hitlerism comes to the Middle East wearing the mask of anti-Hitlerism." --

What weighs heavily against Israel is News Media Bias.. When you read articles re-written in Liberal papers such as the LA Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Miami Herald. Originally written by A/P, Reuters, BBC, MSNBC etc. Many words are changed on purpose because IT SELLS PAPERS.. They omit using "TERRORIST".. And replace it with words like "Insurgent", "Militant", "Bomber".. They use newly minted names such as "West-Bank" for Judea-Samaria.. "East-Jerusalem" for Jerusalem.. And portray "Palestinians" as all being Arab; (when in fact there are Palestinian-Jews, AND Palestinian-Arabs). Make it seem that all Israeli Jews are from Western Europe as a result of WWII. When in reality MORE THAN HALF of Israel's Jews are immigrants from Arab countries! That were forced out of these countries after Israel's independence in 1948. Call Jews "Settlers" (in the land they continually lived and practiced their religion in for the past 3,000 years) and refer to Arabs as "Villagers".. The Liberal Press never shows film clips of the dancing in the streets and celebrating when the WTC, Marine Barracks in Lebanon, or our Embassy's in Africa were bombed. Never makes mention of the intentional rocketing of a school bus by the TERRORISTS in southern Israel.. And also never makes mention that Palestinian Arabs Never for even one day ruled Jerusalem ever (It was Jordan for the 19 years between 1948-1967). But now want to make it their capitol.. But in Israel, they teach their children songs of Peace.. Have always exchanged land for Peace.. Put no preconditions on Peace talks.. Tell me, what do the others teach their children?

"Media bias" is largely an urban myth.

I've seen voices from both sides of that particular conflict get their share of air time.

Divvying up people into Israel lovers and haters is a false dichotomy, but the ploy is used routinely.

We don't divvy people into Brazil lovers or haters, or Malaya lovers or haters, or Nigeria lovers or haters, but when it comes to Israel, it's common to see a sharp, hard line drawn in the sand, either/or, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Why is that?

"So for an artist to go and play in a country that occupies other people’s land and oppresses them the way Israel does, is plain wrong. They should say no. I would not have played for the Vichy government in occupied France in the Second World War, I would not have played in Berlin, either, during this time. Many people did, back in the day. There were many people that pretended that the oppression of the Jews was not going on from 1933 until 1946, so this is not a new scenario — except that this time it’s the Palestinian people being murdered.

The destruction of Palestine cannot all be blamed on Israel. They have failed to support a government that is free thus failing to provide those who don't approve of the occupation by Israel of an alternative to support. There is no free press in either Gaza or the West Bank. Gaza is controlled by Hamas and the West Bank is not much better. The Arab states could put their wealth into Palestine to ameliorate the poverty and despair but they refuse to do so. When Israel did withdraw from Gaza and Lebanon, it only resulted in more terrorism and extremists taking over.
