Do You Know Why Denmark Is One Of The Happiest Countries In The World?

Americans Would Prefer Denmark Social Safety Net & Taxes If Informed

Last year Denmark was ranked the happiest country in world. This year Denmark is ranked the second happiest country in the world topped only by Norway. They are both successful high tax, very good social safety net (universal healthcare, unemployment compensation, retraining, free or affordable higher education, etc.) countries. They are both democratic.

Denmark and other Scandinavian countries weathered the 2008 Great Depression better than most of Europe and the United States. They did this even with what Americans would consider a bloated public sector.

Many will argue that these countries are small in comparison to the US and as such it is not a good comparison. Many will argue that the wealth from North Sea Oil reserves is partly the reason. Many will argue that because these countries are strong welfare states that they are less competitive.

The reality is Americans have been lied to or allowed to wallow in their own ignorance.

They have been taught to believe fallacies that counter one’s intuition. Once this indoctrination is complete, change towards progress is non-existent or painfully slow.

If one is to believe in the economy of scale, America’s size makes efficiency even more possible than in these small countries. America is extremely rich with natural resources, not only oil.

The problem is that it is distributed unfairly among the few that ‘stole’ it or bought it on the cheap (e.g.,25 families own 1% of all land and the resources of that land in America).

Denmark and other Scandinavian countries’ with strong social safety nets have not made them less competitive. In fact they are way at the top of the list with the United States. Most other countries at the top have strong social safety nets as well. As a society they care more for the social, economic, and health well-being of their fellow citizens than America.

The people in Scandinavian countries are happy because they're all so good-looking, and the cold weather means they're forced to spend more time inside having sex.

Two of the most obvious reasons this post will be nothing but lies and misinformation: skews posted it, and it came from addictinginfo.

This little nugget that sounds like it was written by a retro hippie high on LSD starts the ball rolling:
Denmark has once again been ranked as the happiest nation in the world. This time in the first ever World Happiness Report, commissioned for the UN Conference on Happiness, held in April 2012.
Then the lies about Denmark's economy:
One of the reasons Denmark and other Scandinavian countries with a strong social safety nets weathered the Great Recession better is that they had a built in stimulus. In America when one loses a job, they get unemployment for a short time (this recession was an exception). That unemployment is much less than wages and runs out quickly
Fortunately there is the truth. Denmark was the first Scandinavian country to enter the recession of 2008, and are entering their third recession since. If that many recessions make them happy, then the US is better off being a little less happy.

Denmark heading back into recession

Denmark exhausts last stimulus.

Denmark continues to experience a decline in employment.

I don't know if there are studies on this, or if there is a way to measure it, but one difference, according to several Scandinavian friends of mine is that, in their opinion, there is still a great social stigma to being on the dole. It is something to be avoided, and if you are, you work hard at the retraining possible for you or whatever else is needed to be done to get off assistance. They are shocked at how it seems to them large parts of our culture seem to consider getting assistance a commendable goal.

There are obviously other things involved in this. And this is something I have been interested in all my life because the Scandinavian countries are the example of successful socialist counties, contrary to my belief that socialist countries are bound to fail.

But are the riots in Sweden by the immigrants perhaps indicative that these persons didn't bring in or assimilate the same attitudes? And is this to be a growing problem?

Denmark is a tiny nation, comparing with a giant like the USA is, well, stupid

And they have no border with Mexico. That alone would make anyone happy.

I wonder who performed these happy index surveys? I wouldn't have been performed by one of the world's biggest venture capitalists based in Dubai would it? And certainly it was not done for any type of gauge regarding investing billions of dollars could it? Surely there was not an end goal to the benefit of the venture capitalist?

Get those teeth off your tongue. The U.N. does not do surveys, they commission them. Any worldwide study regarding wealth and income inequalities, etc. are either performed or traced back to Legatum.
