"The grand vision of Green Mountain Care continues to hold great promise: To treat all human beings as equals when it comes to necessary health care; to end the absurd spiral of health care costs that is crippling businesses, bankrupting school and municipal budgets, and threatening the entire economy; and to give doctors the ability to practice the kind of medicine for which they were trained—focusing on patients’ needs, not on billing, insurance, and a patients’ financial status. A majority of Vermonters are cautiously optimistic that, in four years, their state will become the first place in America to realize this dream."

Yes. Plus some competitive bidding for services, then private insurance greed is eliminated while great free market competition improves quality and value for private medical services.

The only flaw? Democrats like it. Yucky! Quick tune into Limbaugh show so we know what to call it, which Libtards never do, because they never research what to call legislation. Dumb Libs!

Three is no country now or ever that treats all people the same as far as health care. None. Never will be either. The majority of course can be shuttled into dreadful care that the political class and their wealthy patrons are not subject to. Forced into terminating their lives as we are seeing in numerous countries. You think the N. Korean leadership has the same health care as the masses?

Yeah, Obama and Michelle and the kids are gonna settle for the same health care they deem worthy of the unwashed masses. Same with the rest of the ruling class.

I'm not sure that a single payer system will work out for Vermont when you look at the math.

Per capita spending on health care is $8k a year. Vermont has 630,000 citizens. $8,000 x $630,000 = $5 billion annual spending on health care.

The entire state budget of Vermont is $5 billion, the economy of Vermont is $26 billion.

To provide single payer health coverage Vermont would have to double every state tax, or seize 20% of the economic output of the state.

Good luck with that!

Plus according to MM's article the Vermont plan is illegal under the ACA.

You got that right, looks like Obamacare has 3-6 months left before Democrats repeal it so they can hang on to the Senate in 2014.

. . . .

Quote:

"While the health law's insurance markets are still struggling to get off the ground, the Obama administration is moving ahead with its second year of meting out bonuses and penalties to hospitals based on the quality of their care. This year, there are more losers than winners.

Medicare has raised payment rates to 1,231 hospitals based on two-dozen quality measurements, including surveys of patient satisfaction and — for the first time — death rates. Another 1,451 hospitals are being paid less for each Medicare patient they treat for the year that began Oct. 1.

For half the hospitals, the financial changes are negligible: they are gaining or losing less a fraction of a percent of what Medicare otherwise would have paid. Others are experiencing greater swings.

The bonuses and penalties are one piece of the health care law's efforts to create financial incentives for doctors and hospitals to provide better care. "This program is driving what we want in health care," said Dr. Patrick Conway, Medicare's chief medical officer.

For hospitals, the changes in quality payments come on top of Medicare's penalties on 2,205 hospitals with higher than expected readmission rates. Medicare gives bonuses to the private Medicare Advantage insurance plans that score well on quality metrics."
