Irony 1 & 2

Irony 1 & 2
Two Statements that speak volumes: Also shows the brains of our leaders.

Irony 1.
"We are told NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics."
BUT on the other hand. "We are also encouraged TO judge ALL Gun Owners by the actions of a few lunatics."
How is that supposed to work.....??????

Irony 2.
The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 47 million people as of the most recent figures available in 2013.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us "Please Do Not Feed the Animals."
Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus Ends Today's Lesson On Irony

(My bold)

SNAP is about price supports for commodity foods, & only secondarily - or maybe even tertiarily - about feeding children/students, or even otherwise hungry children/students. (This is also why SNAP is run out of the Dept. of Ag, & not out of Health & Human Services - it's not about the intended recipients @ all, it's about the financial health of the supplying farms.) SNAP is the modern incarnation of the Commodity Foods Program (which used to distribute actual cans/bags/sacks of food to families, based on income). Prexy Truman signed the SLP into law in 1946, as I recall - & initially, it didn't feed poor children @ all. It simply allowed the purchase of commodity foods from commercial farms, & their distribution to public schools to support their lunch programs.

It was in the early '50s I believe, when children were targeted for meals based on their families' income - & thus children members of families @ 125% (?) of the national poverty rate, were officially the intended recipients. (Note that some independent school districts/localities/states had run food programs to feed children @ poverty before the national program went into effect. See Wikipedia for details - National School Lunch Program.)

Yah, the criteria are different - we assume that a wild animal should be able to forage for its own food, & that feeding it artificially will somehow diminish its wild nature. We don't make that assumption about human children - we're willing to wait & see if the child develops useful attributes. This is why horses with broken legs are typically put down, while children with broken limbs are typically treated & nursed to health.
