Latest News from Ukraine

It's terrible.

Crimea is militarily occupied and cut off from the rest of the world by uniformed military without any identifying insignia. The Russian Navy has blockaded the coast. Armor is staged in Russia as are ground troops, armored personnel carriers are moving throughout Crimea, and the ubiquitous "unidentified" heavily armed military control the Crimean capital's administrative center, and the airports. All highways into Crimea are blocked, and all vehicles are being searched.

Yanukovych, with Russian asylum and Russian fighter jet escort to Russia, made a trademark "lying through his teeth" address, and still claims to be the president. He denies everything that has been in fact, materially revealed about his criminal reign, the opulent "palace" isn't his, he has no other residences, and no foreign bank accounts ... all lies.

He says he won't ask Russia for assistance in restoring the legitimate government. To top it off, only pro-Russian journalists were allowed in the building, and the questions asked followed an easily discernible script.

Russian media continue to misrepresent events grossly. My wife today said she never saw anything more blatant during the Soviet days. It's incredible to switch from Russian to Ukrainian TV stations. The unidentified military in Crimea are denying Ukrainian journalists access to events.

My eyes have been sweating again today, because in slow-motion, this revolution is being crushed by the steel of a Russian fist. The Maidan coalition members are "the rebels." Crimea is the initial focus point of the legitimate government of Ukraine ousting the rebels. Yanukovych is a hero, and Russia is Ukraine's best friend.

Crimea is occupied, eastern Ukraine is next, and then it's either partition, which Putin doesn't want, or the tanks roll all the way to the western borders, to restore the legitimate Ukrainian government.

Oh yeah, not a word or action has been attributed to Putin.

There's more, but that's all I can stomach for now. Yeah, this drama gets me in the belly....

I don't think that it will be as simple as 'crushing the revolution.' It looks like civil war is imminent.

Yeah, that's possible however look for an Iraq-type outcome. No winners, no losers. The life of the average Ukrainian which was a casualty under Yanukovych is set to go on life support, and for some it's going to be a DOA situation.

The Russian Duma is 100 percent behind the actions to which Russia has admitted. The ethnic Russians in Crimea are happy to be militarily occupied.

Yanukovych: "[Russia should] use all the leverage it has to prevent the chaos, the terror, that is unfolding in Ukraine...."

We have been spoon fed one side of the story out of the Ukraine. There is a strong movement apparently against the overthrow that took place. It appears the Russian military is attempting a blockade against the Ukraine. If you was Putin why would you not do this? All Putin has heard is that American needs less military, that American has been wrong and its America's fault. He has heard this from within our nations leadership. President has demonstrated that he is in fact Jimmy Carter part 2. His line in the sand over Syria proved that. Now rather or not it shows that the current President is lacking in resolve or just stupid is anyone's guess. The Russian bear is about to grow the claws again, and the Ukraine might just become the first of its reclaiming its economic feeding satellites. America is, as of now, under the current leadership, powerless. The line in the sand could be chickens coming home to roost.

If you were Putin you would not do this because Ukraine is an independent nation. Did you really need to ask ?

So? Why does that matter to Putin? Put yourself in Putin's shoes. If you assume that Putin is wanting to restore the Soviet Union, which I do, then he is doing exactly what I would be doing if I was him. Because who is going to stop him? No one. That is who. The Ukraine people can cry and piss and moan all they want, Europe is not going to lift a finger, they are going to look west to the US, meanwhile were going to draw lines at the white house.

Anyone who believes the Russians will give up their naval bases in the region is seriously, historically, foolish. That a large part of the population in Ukraine is Russian or Russian ancestry is fact.

Obama should have offered to act as mediator rather than lecture. The only sane solution is partition, but giving Putin and Russia orders was the 180˚ wrong way. Kerry as well showed what a fool he is.

Like you, I'm wondering why Obama hasn't fired a few nuclear missiles at Russia.... just a few. Coward.

The critical case of ODS you have has pushed you into justifying Putin's iron fist.

I'm watching it all, live, on Russian and Ukrainian TV. Earlier today, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the head of Russia's Liberal Democratic Party, flew into Crimea to calm everyone's fears, and to throw 10,000 ruble wads of cash to the crowd telling them to go buy flowers for the girlfriends.

Yes, I saw this ON RUSSIAN TV. They are proud of Zhirinovsky, who also said Russia will take of anything they need, including free gasoline for their cars.

Now isn't this wonderful? You're siding with Russia's Liberal Democratic Party, and with the iron fist of Putin.

I don't what my eyes are seeing that's harder to believe, the Russian asylum given to the crooked bastard murderer Yanukovych, or the Russian military invasion of Crimea, first, and it'll be the rest of Ukraine later, or people like you.
Thanks from waitingtables and Camelot

Ditto for your case of ODS.

The Russian military bases aren't and never have been an issue.

Russia assured Obama and NATO leaders that Russia would not intervene militarily.
