Republican Congressman from Louisiana caught on video

Vance McAllister on video showing kiss with staffer: 'I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness' | NOLA.com

Quote:

Just four months on the job, U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, has landed himself in hot water after a video surfaced Monday purportedly showing Louisiana's newest congressman kissing a married staffer.

The Ouachita Citizen first reported on the video, which the outlet said shows McAllister and his district scheduler Melissa Anne Hixon Peacock, 33, locked in an embrace. The video is dated Dec. 23, just a little more than a month after McAllister was elected to Louisiana's 6th Congressional District and was sent to the Citizen by an anonymous source, according to the newspaper's report.

On Monday afternoon, the freshman representative issued a statement asking for forgiveness.

"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness. I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve."

"Trust is something I know has to be earned whether you're a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."

"From day one, I've always tried to be an honest man. I ran for Congress to make a difference and not to just be another politician. I don't want to make a political statement on this. I would just simply like to say that I'm very sorry for what I've done."

"While I realize I serve the public, I would appreciate the privacy given to my children as we get through this."

McAllister ran on a strong family values platform in the November special election that won him the seat of outgoing U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman. His victory over state Sen. Neil Riser, R-Columbia, was a surprise for many, as the latter was endorsed by many in the national and state Republican parties.

Riser was reluctant to comment on the video late Monday, saying only, "Right now, we need to be mindful and sensitive to the families that are involved."

Since his inauguration, McAllister has garnered media attention for his close relationship with the Robertson family of Duck Dynasty fame and for telling The Shreveport Times he thought his new Washington gig "sucks."

According to The Ouachita Citizen, McAllister has long had ties to Peacock and her family. Both Peacock and her husband contributed to McAllister's campaign, and the congressman worked and attended the same high school as Peacock's husband.

McAllister missed two House votes Monday night.

I think that Phil Robertson should give his opinion on God's views on this like he did about being gay.

Yes, but WT, this Republican Congressman is a Christian. So that allows him a "get out of jail free" card. They're the biggest hypocritical phonies on the planet.

And his platform was basically "Family Values". Go figure.

Another invitation for the famous "at least Republicans have morals to violate" argument?

Hillary would also qualify, she's just more careful about where she cheats.
