soldiers not allowed

a father home from service stopped at his son's school to speak to his son's counselor about something. but was denied entry to the school, told his uniform might offend some people.

I'm offended anyone would show this lack of respect for those who put their lives at risk for us.

rochester hills michigan.

but the thinking that caused this is everywhere in us public schools.

Stuff like this happens. It is not right but we live in a society that sometimes does not use any judgment in the application of RULES. I have seen it from HOAs, City Halls and especially schools.

But, in the absence of more information, it sounds like the person speaking for the school was the one offended. This is much more a reflection of personal feelings (and supposition) than an established prohibition. As far as it being throughout our schools you should get a clue. Uniformed military, active duty/on leave/recruiters are in and out of our schools all the time. I've even seen ROTC sponsored fly-ins of military helicopters and a static display of a Bradley (for recruiting purposes).

I actually had a run-in with a USMC recruiter last year. He took it upon himself to call me and complain because I explained to one of his targets that ALL Marines are riflemen first and whatever their specialty is second. He also didn't like the fact I said the USMC was a wholly owned subsidiary of the USN. I wound up talking with his station OIC about this. The kid knew I was former commissioned Navy and the way he spoke to me would have been inappropriate for addressing even a civilian. It was an interesting incident. Apparently, respect for former service doesn't run very deep and has a short expiration date.

You should be more concerned about military families having to find subsistence at food pantries because of their pathetic compensation IMO.

I have such a hard time believing that the reporters got the story complete or accurate.

U.S. public schools are VERY supportive of the armed services.
Thanks from Castle Doctrine

So it was a rent-a-cop and the school has repudiated his actions and the officer was allowed into the school. Much ado about nothing except a cop-wannabe with an over-inflated sense of self-importance.
Thanks from skews13 and Camelot

I am the father of a combat veteran in Iraq. It offended me also. But obviously the story was taken out of context, and I would suspect coming from Fox trying to cast aspersions on the public school system, had an ulterior motive. After reading the information contained within the link, imagine my surprise to find out I was right.

But when Baker tried to go in, a security guard told him that he could not enter wearing the uniform because it could offend people, Ferhadson recounted.

At that point, the couple called the superintendent's office from the parking lot and a staff member came out to let him in the school.
Ferhadson says the superintendent, a combat Marine veteran himself, was also "appalled" at what happened and the principal has also expressed regret to the family.
