Proposed Bill Would Require Women To Ask Men's Permission To Have An Abortion

Proposed Bill Would Require Women To Ask Men's Permission To Have An Abortion

Quote:
A bill proposed by a Republican state lawmaker in Missouri would require a woman seeking an abortion to obtain notarized consent from the baby's father, even if he is physically abusive toward her.

The bill's sponsor, State Rep. Rick Brattin, told Mother Jones that while the bill has exceptions for rape victims and to protect the life of the mother, women in domestic violence situations are not exempt from having to ask the father's permission. "What does that have to do with the child's life?" Brattin said. "Just because it was an abusive relationship, does that mean the child should die?"
I swear those born again evangelical republican/teabagging cult members must have the smallest johnsons on the planet.

What a crock.

Two to tango, but one to abort?

If a man is required to pay child support, he should be notified whether to abort a child.

It was probably a "joint decision"...and maybe some wine...that got them into this situation in the first place!

sure the father should have a say, IF he's still around. my guess in most cases he's long gone or could care less as long as he doesn't have to pay support.

Although I am totally pro-choice, I *do* think that the father should have a vote in the abortion of his child.

I'm not sure that his should be the DECIDING vote - and i'm not even sure what that means in terms of legality - but he should have some say in the matter. Perhaps some kind of contract that he will take 100% responsibility for the child once the mother gives birth, or something.
Thanks from roastpork

The only way that would work, is if the mother agreed. Otherwise, you would be giving the man control over the woman's body.

Also, what would happen if the man changed his mind after the child was born?

Also, how is the father going to prove that he is the father before the birth?

Those are valid points.

Yet, if a woman decides to birth a baby over the father's objections, she's being given control over the man's body, i.e. he'll have to use his body to work and to pay child support for at least 18 years.

18 years ... 9 months ... the sovereignty over who's body is at the most at risk here?
Thanks from roastpork, Libertine and coke
