John Boehner Backs Steve Scalise Amid Controversy Over White Supremacist Meeting

John Boehner Backs Steve Scalise Amid Controversy Over White Supremacist Meeting

Quote:
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is throwing a lifesaver to House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R) as the Louisiana congressman faces a deluge of criticism and questions over a 2002 speech he gave to a white supremacist group.

"More than a decade ago, Representative Scalise made an error in judgment, and he was right to acknowledge it was wrong and inappropriate. Like many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, I know Steve to be a man of high integrity and good character. He has my full confidence as our Whip, and he will continue to do great and important work for all Americans," Boehner said in a Tuesday statement.

. . .
Of course Boehner is going to back up this guy. The republican party STANDS for racism and misogyny and hatred and gods of the rich. We get it, Boehner; party agenda and all.

Well, the white supremacist's are pissed now....

Racists Melt Down Over Steve Scalise
White supremacists online whine that the Republican leader addressing one of their groups is no different than talking to the NAACP.

The scandal swirling around Steve Scalise’s address to white supremacists has white supremacists crying foul.

Steve Scalise, newly elected as Republican majority whip, admitted to addressing the European-American Unity and Rights Organization conference in 2002 when he was a Louisiana lawmaker. (EURO was founded by David Duke, the ex-Klansman who ran for Louisiana governor in 1991.) Scalise says he didn’t know they were a white supremacist group and equated addressing them with “liberal” groups like the League of Women voters.

Stormfront.org, the leading white-hate site on the Internet, agrees with Scalise’s defense. Stormfront founder and former KKK leader Don Black wrote he can’t stand the “absolute hypocrisy of the anti-White establishment.”

“Politicians grovel before African-American, Latino and Jewish groups, which openly promote their racial interests,” Black complained, “but they are conditioned to run like scared rabbits at the very idea European-Americans have rights.”

The Stormfront folks say the forum isn’t about white Christian supremacy, but rights for whites, despite posting how African Americans have “IQs in the range of 80-85” and claiming the “jewsmedia” actively “ignores black on white crime.”

“We are not white supremacist,” insists Popper 504. “We want to live with our own, farthest away from the blacks and jews.” [sic]

How dare the “Jewish Supremacist Antagonist” be outraged when no one would care if Scalise had spoken at “NAACP or Urban League or LaRaza,” said Ex-Detroiter. “All of those would be just fine.”

I'm surprised that it took so long for this subject to be brought up. I'm going to p--- of manyLiberal friends on this by stating that I actually see and agree with what Boehner is doing here- he's leaving this all up to Scalise to solve himself!
Personally, I have no problem with mistakes made in the past by anyone. I only concern myself with that person learning their mistake and correcting it. I said the same thing during the Paula Deen fiasco.
Okay, Steve Scalise made a speech in front of a hate group years ago. Yes, that is bad PR for him. I get that. But; isn't Scalise entitled to change his thought process like the rest of us when we make a mistake and learn our lessons from our mistakes?
To me; it's more important what Scalise thinks today. One, if he can even recognize hate rhetoric if exposed to it; and detach himself from making that same mistake!
Now; if Scalise is currently still addressing hate groups, then that is a big problem for him politically; and me personally. I couldn't be so forgiving then.
The only "bomb" left to drop in this current episode cannot drop unless somehow the transcript of Scalise's speech became public. If this happened; Scalise would probably have to defend each sentence he spoke. If it became clear that he actually did know that this was a hate group; Boehner and the rest of the Repubs would run away from him like he had leprosy!

Obviously very different, Tony. I don't see any Dems running away from having been a guest on Sharpton's MSNBC show; and I still haven't heard anybody except you think that Obama should explain having Sharpton at the WH. I didn't hear Romney question this during the last election- why is that?

I'd have put good money on your being the first to defend Scalise.
