Republicans say no to American-made steel for Keystone XL

Republicans say no to American-made steel for Keystone XL

Quote:
Republicans like to point to Keystone XL as one of their signature jobs bills and, when oil prices are high, like to imply that it would mean cheap oil flowing free in America. But Tuesday afternoon they voted down two Democratic amendments aimed at just those issues.

Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey's amendment to the Keystone bill would have prohibited oil shipped through the pipeline from being exported. It was killed by a 57 to 42 vote. Minnesota Sen. Al Franken's amendment would have required that the pipeline be built with American steel. It was killed by a 53 to 46 vote.

Seriously. "It's a jobs bill! It's a jobs bill!" "Okay, let's require that it be made with American materials, creating more jobs." "Hell, no."
The republicanteabagging party is SO anti-American and anti-American workers. It's a wonder ANYONE would vote them in office.

Now the Democrats can produce the political theatre.
They can offer bills like this, that have no chance of passage, the GOP is now beholden to it's masters, but the people of country will be exposed to the GOP demanding that oil be exported to China, to raise the price to the American consumer, that the Chinese steel worker should make the steel for the XL pipeline, that taxes on the middle class should be kept high in order to lower taxes on the top 0.1%, that good paying union jobs should be exported and that the American worker should be made to consider education and medical care as luxuries reserved for the upper class.

And the we'll hold elections......

Republicans whined because Bundy was expected to pay grazing fees on public land but sit quiet when Nebraska rancher's land rights are being threatened by a foreign company. Total hypocrites;

TransCanada files eminent domain petitions against holdout landowners opposing Keystone XL pipeline

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joe Duggan

LINCOLN — The Canadian company that wants to build the Keystone XL pipeline filed legal action Tuesday against the holdout landowners in an effort to secure the remaining right-of-way for the controversial project.

A representative for TransCanada Corp. said eminent domain petitions were filed in nine counties against “less than 90” landowners. The landowners represent the last people along the 1,187-mile pipeline route to refuse voluntary easement agreements.

“This is just another step in the process,” said Andrew Craig, land manager for the Keystone projects. “Eminent domain has a ring of finality, but we still remain committed to reaching voluntary agreements.”

Under a 2012 state law that approved the pipeline route in Nebraska, the company had until Thursday to file eminent domain actions. Court hearings will follow and an independent panel will determine the value for easements and any crop damage caused by pipeline construction before a judge orders the land condemned.

Oh, with republican control of Congress, they know it will be passed. The best the democrats can do is demand American workers benefit from it.

DO try to keep up, TN.

In all fairness, it is the rich whom their god of the rich, the NIV created political cult calls upon at election time, AND foreign countries pay for their teabagging/republicans to get elected.

An Alaskan ferry company is building a terminal in Canada. It wants to make all contracts have a clause saying only US made materials are to be used.

The Canadian government are threatening to shut it down. Is either side right?

Sure. We are having it piped through our nation. WE have the right to demand the manufacturing rights and use of the oil.

Another thing to consider. If there are spills, should Canada have to pay for the clean up?

Is it right in your mind for a foreign company to use eminent domain to steal an American ranchers land to build a pipeline that the Canadian people will not allow to be built across their own land ?
