FCC Chairman Refuses To Testify

Transparency?

FCC Chair Refuses to Testify before Congress ahead of Net Neutrality Vote

Quote:

Two prominent House committee chairs are “deeply disappointed” in Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler for refusing to testify before Congress as “the future of the Internet is at stake.” Wheeler’s refusal to go before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday comes on the eve of the FCC’s vote on new Internet regulations pertaining to net neutrality. The committee’s chairman, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), and Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R., Mich.) criticized Wheeler and the administration for lacking transparency on the issue.

“So long as the chairman continues to insist on secrecy, we will continue calling for more transparency and accountability at the commission,” Chaffetz and Upton said in a statement. “Chairman Wheeler and the FCC are not above Congress.”

If there was a choice there is no way I would voluntarily appear at one of the seemingly endless tax wasting Republican witch hunts.
Thanks from Camelot and LongWinded

Sorry, I did read it but went ahead and assumed that Issa and his ethics witch hunt were involved. Guess I did an "ass" thing to assume it. Even other republicans can make demands to try to look as though they have authority.

So, it must still not illegal to NOT testify, as there are no charges pending against the FCC chair. He's done nothing wrong.

That is a foolish remark at best. Oversight.

Well he has kept the 300+ pages secret, in violation of Obama's "most transparent Presidency" pledge.

He was not issued a subpoena to testify, so what "charges"? But why refuse? Indeed ...........

Surely an intelligent person like yourself would want to be able to actually READ the Bill before it's voted on,right?

You do know that Issa was replaced by Gowdy, right?

You do know that Congress asks, then if someone refused, they can issue a subpoena, and that has the force of law, right?

Problem is, will the leadership, such as it is, authorize the issuance of a subpoena. Also, the regs are to be voted on tomorrow by the FCC.

Recall that Boehner moved the House to find Lois Lerner in contempt, which they did. Boehner could then have had her arrested by the Sergeant At Arms. Instead it was handed off to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. That was May 2014.
