McDonald's to hike pay for US restaurant workers

This is another one I expected to be posted by someone else.

It sounds interesting but look at the phrase I emphasised.

Quote:
McDonald's will raise pay for its U.S. restaurant workers by more than 10 percent as it and other large American corporations face wage pressure, the company said Wednesday.

The hike—which will start in July—applies to 90,000 workers at corporate-owned restaurants but not employees of franchisees, McDonald's said. Franchisees operate nearly 90 percent of the 14,350 U.S. McDonald's restaurants and set their own wages.

I think this might create some widespread pressure for higher wages for burger flippers.

Yeah, but it's a start. Those blue states have thriving economies when they raise wages. Corporations are seeing that. They are doing what Obama said would help grow the economy. The red states are still living off the government.

What sort of justification does one have to increase the wages of poorly educated, unskilled, and low value fast food workers?
They are barely capable of flipping those burgers, running a cash register, or getting your order right.
Once upon a time, in a place far, far away from here the low skilled and poorly educated masses used to work in factories that produced so much value the
factory owners were able to pay decent wages.
How much profit do you think there is in selling reheated frozen fast food for $1?

I have an idea that will increase profit, substantially.

Charge $2 for reheated frozen fast food.

The fast food restaurants here in New Haven are known to pay better than the lower-pay jobs in other restaurants - even the high end ones (I'm not talking waiters, bartenders or maitre'ds). The "burger flippers" are earning several dollars per hour more than most restaurants here pay bus help and dishwashers.

I do not eat in fast food restaurants very often (usually only when I'm running errands and I suddenly realize I haven't eaten for hours and I'm ravenous)...I've YET to run across a fast food server who gave me the wrong food, was not prompt and courteous, and the food wasn't hot and freshly unfrozen (LOL).

McDonald's making this announcement IS a bit of a misnomer though. They are well known to be sell FRANCHISES and not operate BRANCHES. Big big difference when it comes to business decisions and marketing calls.
Thanks from imaginethat and Tony

Go fuck yourself. The factories only gave them decent wages because the unions fought tooth, nail, and bled themselves dry for it, and not because the factory owners decided on a whim to grant them it.

How much profit? McDonalds is pure fucking profit.

I do not often eat at fast food restaurants wither but occasionally need to grab a quick bite while out and about.
I can take you to a McDonalds that didn't have any drink available other than water the last two times I went there.
Those visits were months apart so it was at least two incidents of the same total failure of management.
They also messed up two out of the last three orders I made there but I will no longer go there for any reason at all.
So please, take another try at making it seem that it is highly unlikely that the poorly educated and low skilled workers at McDonalds would ever screw up an order in spite of my many experiences of just the opposite.

I have yet to see any response that justifies higher wages for service sector workers at the bottom end of the sector.
Their lack of motivation, intelligence, or whatever excuse they have for being at the bottom of the barrel does not justify them receiving a larger share of the pie in their business.

I see you rely on superior wit and intelligence to make a point.

Funny, the unions have been the demise of factories in this countries since they were started.
We no longer have a thriving manufacturing sector and haven't in a long, long time and now the largest unions are public workers.

Yeah, because selling food for a dollar must mean there is at least $1.50 in profit in every sale!
I bet you think McDonalds could afford to pay all their workers at least $20 an hour.

Please keep making my points for me, buddy.

PS - If you want to be taken seriously BE serious.

Granted, sounds like you have one crappy franchise manager. That's a shame.

Truth is, when I *do* go to fast food restaurants, I tend to bypass McDonald's and Burger King and go to either Wendy's or Arby's. However, the last time I stopped at McDonald's (last summer, because I love their raspberry lemonade freeze LOL), I couldn't complain about the service or food/beverage.

You just got stuck with a lousy franchise - which is a drag.
Thanks from Tony
