I don't feel that it is mine or the states position to tell people what they can believe or think. I have gone to secular meetings in schools and churches. As for schools, those buildings were built by the state for the community. If the community has a problem w/ how they are being used let them deal w/ it. Who are you or anyone else to go into another community and tell them how they can use their free space. Yes many fundamental churches are political war machines but many of those political and religious beliefs go hand and hand. Just because I don't agree w/ what they stand for doesn't mean I want the state to go around charging them w/ thought crimes or telling them where and when they are aloud to congregate.

If it makes you guys feel any better, the schools around here at least make a slight profit on renting out rooms. And the rates are standard, not based on who is renting.

Thus the city gets revenue, almost as if the church was paying taxes.

We should pass a law that all churches must rent meeting space from schools for their Sunday services.

Most Christian Churches do not dislike homosexuals or discriminate against their lifestyle. But most Christians do not believe they should usurp the institution of marriage which has meant the union between a man and a woman for thousands of years and is a religious tradition. They could easily call their union a different name and have the exact same rights.

I think some are also afraid they may be forced to perform the ceremonies in their churches. I doubt that could happen but I'm sure some people think that.

I am a regular church goer and member. I certainly have no "vile hatred for religious people."

Though, I must admit, I have a healthy and large contempt for hypocritical and nasty mean-spirited people.

In the future, please remember you do NOT speak for all churches or all Christians. You speak for the ones who think as you do. That's all.
Tristan this is just a question not an attack!--what do gays think about the verses that say homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of God? and what do the churches think about those verses that perform the ceremonies?

The legal term is marriage.

Now if you want EVERYONE to use a different legal term fine.

But you can't ask that some people to use a different legal term simply because your religion uses the same word.

No, those buildings were built by taxpayers for schools. No other purpose.

Those were jewish priests commenting on the PUBLIC display of homosexuality and not homosexuality. Remember, when those words were written, the jews were coming out of slavery. The priests were preparing them for their new monotheistic world.

IMO those churches have a tendency to cherry pick verses according to their agenda leaving out ones that directly apply to their lives forcing them to look inwards instead of projecting their personal fears outward.

You can get married outside a church. A church can't make you married unless there is the presentation of the STATE license which is a legal document, recorded by the Clerk of Courts.
