Why Republicans Are Ferocious Liars About What Makes the Economy Work

Krugman: Why Republicans Are Ferocious Liars About What Makes the Economy Work | Alternet

Quote:
. . .

So that's a big difference, too. Republicans do little else but brag about the growth they will deliver, the services they will cut and the abortions they will deny. They put forward tax plans that don't add up or make sense, and seldom let facts, math, or common sense inject a dose of reality. When this is pointed out to them, they yell, "Media bias!"

They live in a bubble, is the only explanation Krugman can find, one which facts don't penetrate and the belief that Reagan was the patron saint of economic growth, never mind that Clinton outpaced him. Right-wing media perpetuates the myth, and, the donor class pays GOP candidates to keep up the lie that the policies they favor are good for anyone but them.
AND they yell "Gotcha' question" like a 7th grader who didn't study for a test when asked to explain their economic plan. What a bunch of hypocrites.

The president before Obama ended his tenure with fewer private sector jobs in place than on the day he took office.
And you think that is better than what has happened the last 7 years.
That qualifies you as a racist moron.....

It seems to me that republican base members are not even qualified to vote, not knowing nor understanding what their party stands for, what their party has done, nor the constitution. It is amazing to me that these people feel as though they should be allowed to vote while they are deeply controlled with knee jerk emotionalism.

I was having a fuck of a time trying to find (legal) employees in that 8 years Bush was President......In the 7 years of Obama they are a dime a dozen.....problem is that no one is spending money and I don't need them now...

So yeah....I would say things were a whole lot better under Bush..

Nice anecdote there. Too bad the official economic numbers tell a different story.

Real gross domestic product -- the value of the goods and services produced by the nation's economy less the value of the goods and services used up in production, adjusted for price changes -- increased at an annual rate of 1.5 percent in the third quarter of 2015, according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the second quarter, real GDP increased 3.9 percent.
1.5%..says it all.

Perhaps the biggest difference is that the democrats, NOT the neoliberals, believe that the middle class should be strong and then we have a stronger economy and the republicans just want to give it all to the rich.

Quote:
But isnít the story different for the Obama years? Not as much as you think. Yes, the recovery from the Great Recession of 2007-2009 has been sluggish. Even so, the Obama record compares favorably on a number of indicators with that of George W. Bush. In particular, despite all the talk about job-killing policies, private-sector employment is eight million higher than it was when Barack Obama took office, twice the job gains achieved under his predecessor before the recession struck.

Krugman is humble on the question of why the economy has done better under Democratic administrations: "Thereís no indication that the Democratic advantage can be explained by better monetary and fiscal policies," he writes. "Democrats seem, on average, to have had better luck than Republicans on oil prices and technological progress. Overall, however, the pattern remains mysterious. Certainly no Democratic candidate would be justified in promising dramatically higher growth if elected. And in fact, Democrats never do."
