Tillerson warns N. Korea policy of "strategic patience" may end

Well come and join me at my ice skating party in hell. I'm about to post something agreeing with the Trump administration.

Rex Tillerson on North Korea: Military action 'an option'

Quote:
The US has said its policy of "strategic patience" with North Korea is over and suggested it might decide to take pre-emptive military action.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the option was "on the table" if the threat from the North's weapons programme reached a level requiring it.

During a visit to South Korea, he also said the US was exploring a range of new diplomatic and economic measures.
A long time ago I was debating with a colleague on this and suggested that the US or "the west" should hammer N. Korea. He claimed, and I could never verify this, that there was a large dam near the border and if N. Korea was attacked they could blow the dam and cause devastation on S. Korean cities downstream. I could never find anything to confirm that.

The main downside then was that Red China, as we called it then would retaliate. That no longer pertains it appears, so good on Tillerson.

The biggest problem: Seoul is only 35 miles from the DMZ. Some analysts believe NK has three Rodong-1 missiles fitted with nuclear warheads. The Rodong-1 has a range of around 600 miles.

The Obama Administration agreed to install in 2017 a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery in South Korea.

That fat fucker needs to be taken out quickly, very quickly, because he will try to do as much killing and destroying as he possibly can.

I did do some checking and there is a dam that could flood Seoul, but a few years ago, photos showed that it was cracking, and rather than from fear of war, but from fear of their incompetence and lack of resources to fix it, S. Korea built a dam of their own which could contain such a flood.

The Trump Administration has installed the THAAD System, and the ChiComms are upset, and an official organ of the ChiComm government authored a piece talking about a first strike.

What North Korean have is tremendous artillery firepower capable of hitting Seoul. While Westerners mock the primitive tubes, they are nevertheless believed to be capable of hitting just Seoul alone with half a million shells an hour, carrying convention, biological, chemical, and perhaps even nuclear warheads. It is estimated that Seoul can be devastated within the first two hours.

I won't bore the the dimwitted (not you, of course) or the Walter Mitty's that are here with technical stuff, so will new articles other then MSNBC, CNN, and WAPO and all the other fake news that is so popular here, suffice?

The THAAD installation is expected to become operational this summer.

From the link:
However, the US must pay the price for the THAAD deployment. The THAAD system is key for the US' "rebalance to Asia" strategy and its global anti-missile system so as to contain Russia and China's military capabilities, and secure its dominance in intercontinental ballistic missile deployment. China should take countermeasures to upset such plans.
Anti-missile systems at best would stop a rogue missile or missiles that were or weren't deliberately launched. As such, the THAAD system has no effect on the military capabilities of China or Russia. And the fact that North Korea wasn't mentioned further plunges this article into the realm of bullshit.

NK is useful to China much in the same way as Ukraine is useful to Russia. It's a buffer. It's a pain in the ass for certain competitor countries.

Even so, Chinese patience and forgiveness isn't infinite. It's my opinion that China would not come to NK's rescue, but I might be wrong. We preemptively striking NK would be a very significant escalation. A Chinese response of flooding NK with troops would be a matching escalation. All this is going on very possibly with the North Koreans attacking South Korea, specifically, Seoul.

And then what? It's too bad that the Chinese are taking an intractable position on the THAAD installation, because of all possible countermeasures it will provide a defense to blunt or contain a North Korean missile attack on Seoul. However, the North Koreans have been testing missiles with more vertical lift-offs and descents, specifically to thwart anti-missile systems with the resulting higher speed descents.

It's a bloody mess.

I think many untrumps were sort of hoping that Tillerson...although part of the Wrecking Crew, would at least be the voice of common sense among the generals and billionaire narcissists that populate the White House today.
But, if Tillerson is thinking mostly for himself, then he is carrying out one of the crazy notions of his boss that could be the trigger for fullscale nuclear war.

Events in South Korea have hardly made the news over here of late...except for impeachment and removal of the President; but major SK cities have had large demonstrations demanding an end to wargames and return to the negotiating table, as any war on the Korean Peninsula could lead to complete annihilation of both sides. China being right next door is certain to make a move directly against US power in that event, even if they do have a major disadvantage in nukes and conventional forces!

Many South Koreans worry now that the US is going to rush the puppet government in place now into authorizing a regime change move or war against North Korea sooner/before a saner government has a chance to pull the plug on this grand scheme!

If I haven't lost track, the deranged right are pacifists for some reason when it comes to provoking war with Russia, but are gung-ho on war with China! This comes as expected, since fascists do not apply any higher decision-making values than gaining more power and increasing domination of others.
