Group claiming to want to stop the exploitation of women exploits a woman in an email
A group called "Just want Privacy" in Seattle WA that is backing I-1552, an initiative to place a state wide ban on transgendered people from using facilities of the gender they identify with, used the story of Kelly Herron in an email to drum up support.
Kelly Herron was attacked by a registered sex offender while using the bathroom in Seattle's Golden Gardens Park. Herron was able to fight off the attacker and lock him in the bathroom until police arrived.
Just Want Privacy then used this story (with pictures that Herron had posted) in an email to try and get people to support I-1552.
The thing is Just Want Privacy did not have Herron's permission to use the story or the photos. Herron has since gone to NoOn1552, a group that opposes the initiative, and has gone on record that she opposes the bill and is upset that her story and pictures were used without her permission. There is nothing in the initiative (or any "bathroom bill" for that matter) that would have stopped what happened to Ms. Herron.
Ironic isn't it? A group that claims it wants to protect women from being exploited exploits a woman to try and make their point.
Just like most social conservatives, do as I say not as I do.
