I grew up as a Christian

Hi,

I grew up as a Christian, but in my late twenties and early thirties started to question the whole construct of a monotheistic view of life. I consider myself Hopi-Taoist now.

But I was just reflecting on how, when I was a Christian, me and my fellow Christians would always try and figure out who the Antichrist was.

If there is such thing, and I'm nowhere near certain that there is, I was wondering if anyone else thought Jared Kushner might be a good candidate. Besides that his family business owns a prominent 666 address in NYC, it's interesting alongside all the levers of power he must be dialing in at present.

Aren't pretty well all US evangelicals absolutely sure it's Obama?

That's the funny thing about this maybe. Maybe everyone has their boogey man. Jared Kushner isn't my boogey man, to me he's another Harvard guy who is taking advantage of the opportunities he sees, but if there is such thing as an Antichrist he looks like an interesting candidate.

I was raised a Christian in the Methodist Faith. I was confirmed into the Methodist Church when 14. However the last Christian church service I went to was by a Catholic Priest wearing battle gear on the stern of a Guided Missile Destroyer in Nam in 1972. The Catholic Priest said this is a non-denominational church service and all are welcome.

I was brought up an Anglican Christian Socialist, and talking about the AntiChrist would have seemed to everyone incredibly archaic. Is it common over there? Weird!

The former Miss RNG became born again and over a few years assimilated Mrs. RNG. Their brand is a variant of southern Baptist, sermons aren't moral teachings but intense bible study.

Interestingly to me, the antichrist and the rapture are about the only things in the bible they will admit they don't have nailed down precisely.

The Methodists put a few drops of water on the baby's head and that is baptism. Most if not all Baptist's do full immersion baptism and a few do it in a creek or river. Once you have been baptized you don't need being reborn.

My church elders are considering dropping the name "Evangelical" altogether, thanks to characters like Fred Phelps and Jerry Falwell who have given the name "Evangelical" such a negative turn that nobody anymore, it seems, can even define accurately what it means. I read the posts on this forum, and they are 99% negative, while not one such person has accurately described what I or the leaders of my local church believe, how we regard others, or how we tend to vote.

It's very frustrating to try to explain what you believe, and have someone who doesn't know you from Adam tell you "no you don't, you believe..."
