That verse was VERY specific, and you know it.
Jesus, nor I, never said there was anything wrong with having money. All he said was that is would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to get into heaven, or words to that effect. Not going to rummage around and find a Bible to quote it exactly. You're the Christian, you said you know what it says. Dumbass.

OKAY--MY BAD. What I should have said was Jesus verbally reprimanded the money changers and people LIKE tax collectors who cheated the poor. He overturned tables at the temple. Jesus was a troublemaker, instigator of conflict, disrupter of unity.
There are several stories about Jesus chastising wealthy men. Jesus met with Zacchaeus and Zacchaeus was changed. There's the story of Lazarus and the rich man (who is never named). Matthew, the tax collector IS named. Levi, the tax collector is named. Paul was member of the Sanhedrin, an elite class of highly educated and presumably financially independent. They were all chastized.
But here's the point. The problem is not Jesus/God's attitude toward the rich. The problem is the rich attitude toward their riches.

WE pay for welfare by paying our taxes--our apportionment--the same way we pay for highways, schools, libraries, military, medical research, etc.

In order to have a near perfect system we need a little of both socialism and capitalism, right now the capitalists have the upper hand and are ruining a good thing by being greedy.

Well that was my point, as I said just bad punctuation. Jesus also said we would always have the poor with us. The Bible also says

One further order we must give you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: don’t associate with the brother whose life is undisciplined, and who despises the teaching we gave him. In fact we toiled and laboured night and day to avoid being the slightest expense to any of you. This was not because we had no right to ask our necessities of you, but because we wanted to set you an example. When we were actually with you we gave you this principle to work on: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” Now we hear that you have some among you living quite undisciplined lives, never doing a stroke of work, and busy only in other people’s affairs. Sensible, how very UN-Sensible and fundie of you to post a "War and Peace" length reply, replete with cherry-picked phrases--out of context--from the Bible. It's SOOO useful for your sort of Christian hypocrisy. Yes yes. We've heard it all before from those who have no idea what they are spewing, but thrive on arrogance and parroting some evangelical twaddle.
You know as well as I do that the core principles of Jesus Christ were, (he stated them very clearly, again and again and again): feed the hungry, help the poor, heal the sick, give your money away. Jesus was an upstart progressive, bordering on a full blown socialist. As such, he became a bigger and bigger threat to the existing wealth centers of his ancient world as his influence grew.
AND apparently Jesus is still a threat to the conservative way of life. No amount of selectively chosen Bible verses is going to change the ministry of Christ. No amount of selective justification is going to change Christian doctrine. The tenets of Christianity are clear and simple--my turn to quote scriptures---and here's the Big FAT DEAL from the lips of Christ as written in Mark 12:30-31.
First commandment: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength". The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

Justoneman says the Pope's a socialist. So was Jesus, of course, but the Church decided it was too dicey for their investments.
