C'mon, do the math. Jimmy Crater is 92 years old. He made that decision decades ago. Someone just decided to print an article about it. Note the article makes NO notation of when this was done, No direct quotation of a speech or book or press release, nothing that would indicate a date when he announced this personal decision.
Don't know why someone decided to try and make this look like a current event.
Thanks from catus felis

The Southern Baptist Church amended its statement of beliefs that a wife should "submit herself graciously" to her husbands leadership in 1998.

Since it made headlines at the time, I doubt very much that Mr. Carter has just now noticed.

Yours must be some radical splinter group, or more likely you can't see it because you have been brainwashed since infancy that that is the way it is.

Indeed. I would suppose Jimmy carter made his decision public sometimes prior to 1998.

I resigned my membership when they made that announcement.

It's nice to know I'm in good company.

The math says he was in the church since he was 32 years old. Given his time in the Navy ( eight years) that works out to be most of his adult life. It also says he didn't make the decision "decades ago" so I would say this is a current event.

"I HAVE been a practising Christian all my life and a deacon and Bible teacher for many years. My faith is a source of strength and comfort to me, as religious beliefs are to hundreds of millions of people around the world. So my decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after six decades, was painful and difficult. It was, however, an unavoidable decision when the convention's leaders, quoting a few carefully selected Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be "subservient" to their husbands and prohibited from serving as deacons, pastors or chaplains in the military service."

Being southern, he was probably born into the church. Since he resigned his membership after 'six decades', that puts the math about right.
