U.S. warplane downs Syrian army jet in Raqqa province

Damn neocons....
U.S. warplane downs Syrian army jet in Raqqa province

A U.S. warplane shot down a Syrian army jet on Sunday in the southern Raqqa countryside, with Washington saying the jet had dropped bombs near U.S.-backed forces and Damascus saying the plane was downed while flying a mission against Islamic State militants.

A Syrian army statement released on Syrian state television said the plane crashed and the pilot was missing in the first such downing of a Syrian jet by the United States since the start of the conflict in 2011.

...The U.S. Central Command later issued a statement saying the Syrian plane was downed "in collective self-defense of Coalition-partnered forces," identified as fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near Tabqah.

It said that "pro-Syrian regime forces" had earlier attacked an SDF-held town south of Tabqa and wounded a number of fighters, driving them from the town.

Coalition aircraft in a show of force stopped the initial advance. When a Syrian army SU-22 jet later dropped bombs near the U.S.-backed forces, it was immediately shot down by a U.S. F/A-18E Super Hornet, the statement said.

Yet another indication that Trump is a hardliner with regards to Russia.

in a region where your enemies enemy is your friend, it can now be said that the US has sided with islamic state against assad. it isnt that simple, but that doesnt matter, thats how it can be presented.

Serious questions need to be asked whether the US has been fighting Islamic State in the first place/ or maybe IS is just another one of the proxies they cooked up to fight opponents of US foreign policy...like Iran and Syria.

The IS was allowed to grow and take in a large portion of Iraq and Syria, sell stolen oil in truck convoys crossing the Turkish border, and even in recent battles, there is evidence that somehow ISIS fighters are allowed an escape route out of the city of Raqqa. It's all a scam from start to finish!

That was amazing but even more amazing is Iran shot missiles into Syria hitting IS, sic. Iran did that in retribution for recent ISIS attacks in Tehran.

Russia's defense ministry says it will treat U.S.-led coalition planes in Syria, west of the Euphrates River, as targets after the U.S. military shot down a Syrian Air Force jet on Sunday.

The BBC which isn't known for overstatement gave a pretty sombre summary of the Russian statement.

Oh my! Russia isn't happy. Sad face. The Russian Defense Ministry called American attacks against the Syrian forces “military aggression” and announced that it would suspend cooperation with the United States intended to prevent airborne accidents over Syria.
The Putin/Assad LOVE FEST continues. It's sickening.

I don't buy it. A Navy fighter shoots down a Syrian fighter after it drops a bomb?

Anybody else notice there hasn't been an official statement the Syrian plane was engaged after what would be deemed the appearance of dropping more bombs?

So it shot it down on it's way back to it's home base?

Why was a Syrian plane flying that sortie instead of a Russian plane that has been previously flying those types of sorties in that area?

Yeah. Right. I'm sure the Russians heart just bleeds over that Syrian Pilot.

Which by the way. Has that pilot been confirmed to be killed, or did he manage to eject just in time before the missile hit the plane?

This story is full of more horse shit than a stable.

Because military aggression is exactly what it is! The US has invaded a foreign country..is supporting and recruiting Islamist radicals of all stripes to overthrow the government, and shooting down the legal government's jets because they see them as "a threat" to their interests...which apparently includes turning another secular, multi-ethnic state into the kind of hellholes they've turned Libya and Iraq into...yeah things are much better when Team America comes over to fix everything!
