By the time we are reactive with AI regulation, itís too late

We argue over emails and Russian connections while a true monster grows right before our eyes.
Elon Musk Says Artificial Intelligence Is the ĎGreatest Risk We Face as a Civilizationí

Appearing before a meeting of the National Governorís Association on Saturday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk described artificial intelligence as ďthe greatest risk we face as a civilizationĒ and called for swift and decisive government intervention to oversee the technologyís development.

ďOn the artificial intelligence front, I have access to the very most cutting edge AI, and I think people should be really concerned about it,Ē an unusually subdued Musk said in a question and answer session with Nevada governor Brian Sandoval.

Musk has long been vocal about the risks of AI. But his statements before the nationís governors were notable both for their dire severity, and his forceful call for government intervention.

ďAIís a rare case where we need to be proactive in regulation, instead of reactive. Because by the time we are reactive with AI regulation, itís too late," he remarked. Musk then drew a contrast between AI and traditional targets for regulation, saying ďAI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization, in a way that car accidents, airplane crashes, faulty drugs, or bad food were not.Ē

Those are strong words from a man occasionally associated with so-called cyberlibertarianism, a fervently anti-regulation ideology exemplified by the likes of Peter Thiel, who co-founded Paypal with Musk.

I'm unsurprised to see no posts. This is truly scary shit the more you think about it. And it's barely being discussed ... because it's so damned scary, and real, here and now.

There is nothing that can be done about it. Once "computers" achieve self realization it is only a matter of time until they come to the conclusion that the herd must be culled. If you step back and look at the planet from or as a cellular level mankind appears to act more like a cancer than a steward. One way or another our numbers must be dramaticlly decreased.

Ooops, you were just kidding when you said you were an atheist.

My apology. You're no atheist. You're a pagan.
