Monuments and statues are brick and mortar memorials--nothing more. They are NOT our history. They are art work, created to glorify a divisive time which we now deem to be shameful.
They are a part of your history and mine, just as much as minority history is, in helping too shape US history since the 16th century. I am not ashamed of this particular chapter of US history because it reminds me of where we came from, where we've been , why did it happen and how best to go forward as a united country rather than too keep sliding into further divisions and chaos.

We have moved on.
Put the statues elsewhere--a Confederate museum--private property--a botanical garden--a battlefield--a wayside park.
Are these the alternatives? What would protect them from even more future removals?

I don't know. I've heard stories from our educational classrooms of kids not knowing who Abraham Lincoln was, or when the civil war was fought, who the combatants we're and ect...

These memorials are NOT history lessons.

They are memorials of honor of people who were traitors to the United States of America.

They should not be on U.S. public lands.

The parts where we honor traitors to our nation.

What is a traitor now a days? Now a days it is more of a sin for an individual to betray the party than it is to betray the country. Traitors to the country are deserving of understanding now, but traitors to a party are worthy only of a slow death?

This ain't the country I was born and raised into.

Won't this get confusing though? Our founding fathers were traitors in their own right to the crown? They were and did identifiy as British before they became American Icons?
