Confederate Statues Removed in Baltimore and Durham

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local...=.0cb1ec8996f9

Quote:
Crews removed Baltimore’s Confederate statues early Wednesday, days after the deadly unrest in Charlottesville instigated by white nationalists rallying to defend a downtown Confederate monument.

The quiet and sudden removal of four monuments, with little fanfare and no advance notice, marks an attempt by the city to avoid a long, bruising conflict that has embroiled Charlottesville and other communities rethinking how they honor figures who fought to preserve slavery.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine E. Pugh (D) announced Monday she was in talks with contractors to haul away the statues, and the city council approved a removal plan that night. Some activists had vowed to destroy the monuments before government could act.

DURHAM, N.C. — A North Carolina Central University student was arrested Tuesday in connection with a Monday night protest in which a Confederate statue in front of Durham County's former courthouse was pulled down.

Takiyah Fatima Thompson, 22, was charged with participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500 and inciting others to riot where property damage exceeds $1,500, both felonies, as well as damage to real property and disorderly conduct by injury to a statue, both misdemeanors. 356

Thompson used a ladder to scale the podium on which the Confederate Soldiers Monument had stood since 1924, then climbed the statue and wrapped a strap around it so other protesters could pull it down.

Thompson was given $10,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
Symbolic actions, sure. But important nonetheless. The South needs to get over it, especially since they love telling Black folks to get over slavery. Take that shit down.

Civil wars last for many, many generations after the active clash of militaries is over.

We're now on the edge of open hostilities breaking out, again. Check out the peaceful protestor whose group had a permit:

How do you feel about the Lenin statue in Seattle?

Lenin the Man endorsed the use of mass terror against his enemies, created the Soviet Union's secret police, and implemented policies that caused millions of peasant farmers to starve to death.

Where exactly is the statue you refer to?

Agreed, though Stalin's hands were far bloodier than Lenin's.

The statue is private property. It's for sale. The state should leave it alone.

How about you? What do you suggest should be done with it?

You are ok with it being displayed Publicly?

The statue's hands are often painted, and re-painted, red to protest the perceived glorification a historical villain with blood on his hands for deaths comparable with Hitler or Stalin.[13]
